Over the past ten days more than three thousand people from many 'countries walked through the doors of Hanover Hill Farm to view the progeny of two newly proven young bulls, Hanover Hill : Lieutenant, and Roycedale Approval. The Autumn Progeny Revue, presented by * United Breeders Inc., a Guelph-based AL «artificial insemination) co-operative and hosted by Hdnover Holsteins of Port Perry proved to be a popular event for breeders in the dairy industry. Brian Carscadden, a sire analyst with UBI in charge of the project, told the Citizen the whole concept of the Revue was to give breeders world- wide a charice to view the offspring of these bulls. He said "by looking a t the 22 cows, all daughters of these bulls, the breeder will be able to visualize each bull's breeding pattern, and if so desired, will be able to incorporate that same pattern in their own herds by purchasing the semen from UBL Both bulls probably have semen collected fron them at least three times a week at the AI co- operative's barns in Guelph. From one ejaculate, anywhere from 25 to 250 straws of semen can be produced. The cost for one strow of semen from the Lieutenant is $30. and the cost for semen from Roycedale Approval is $18. Speaking to several dairymen at the farm the Citizen learned traits Hill Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, November 21, 1994 -- 25 + 5] Progeny Revue creates quite a stir at Hanover breeders are looking for in a dairy animal. "It's extremely important to have good, strong feet and legs and have a strong udder attachment, with four well-balanced teats" said Howard. Doner, a Cannington farmer. Bruce Howe, a breeder from Aylmer, agreed, adding that"the animal should be "deep ribbed, with a tall, long body and haye a good temperament". In other words, a well-balanced cow! Howe and his wife, Elvinda, are in the process of rebuilding their herd after selling all their cows in the spring. "I've been using the Lieutenant bull and seeing the daughters he produces, Ill continue to use him" he said. "The Approvals are a lot better than I d, too" \ Hill United Breeders Inc. presented a show of outstanding Dairy cattle at Hanover Hill farm recently. Seen above are Bruce, and Elvinda Howe of Aylmer with Brian Carscadden of UBI. See story. Citizen the semen of both bulls is used in Japan and is starting to gain in popularity. "It's very good and offers a great future in our country" he said. Many of the Japanese people visiting the farm last Saturday are with the Holstein Cattle Association of Japan and the Livestock Improvement Association in Japan. Hanover Hill Holsteins, known world-wide, is Canada's premier breeding establishment and is the birthplace of one of the featured bulls - Hanoverhill Lieutenant. Scugog is one of the most prestigious agricultural areas in Canada. Other farms in the area that received bus tours last week were Dappleholm Holsteins, Greenbank; Danny McFadden and he said. . A Japanese breeder, speaking through an interpreter, told the Riavue Farms in Sunderland, O'Connor Holsteins insAjax and High Point Farms in Port Perry. Barclay Phoenix above left of Greenbank won Grand Champion Sh - Scotlabank-Hays Classic at the Royal Winter Fair, November 13 and 14.
