How about an original, delightful, merry film, so we feel like decking the halls and jingling those bells. All I want for Christmas this year at the theatre is a unique experience. A movie that hasn't already been done before, and hasn't been colourized, sanitized and politically correctized (is that a word?). I saw the original black and white "Miracle on the 34th Street" and loved it. I have no desire to see the 1994 technicolour babyboomer edition. I came to see this film on the advice of a friend who enjoyed it and said I should take a "gaggle" of kids and have a great time. Gaggle of kids and fun are a bit of a contradiction. I did take four little guests with me and I hope those numbers a gaggle make, because unless the theatre has drive-thru snacks I couldn't handle any more. 1 checked the demographics at my home and could come up with two 7 yr. olds 'and one 9 yr. old, usually enough for any given day but we needed an 8 yr. old to round out the pack. Our guest Taylor was a Santa Clause veteran. He had already seen this film twice and was willing to share his experience with the rest of us in the car on the way to the theatre. Lucky for me the drive wasn't any longer or we would have experienced the ending as well. Santa Clause was just what this cheerful group was looking for. No Silent Nights for us, oh no. Tim Allen is a divorced disbeliever, who finds himself alone with his son on Christmas Eve at the North Pole as Santa, and that's just the first 20 - minutes. The movie unfolds as Santa is given a year to put his life in order so he can fulfill his new position next Christmas. During the year he remembers the magic of everything he ever believed in and rediscovers the things that are most important. The under 6 year olds were a bit bored if the action stopped for longer than a minute but that wasn't often. 1 will buy this movie when it comes out on video, and I'll add it to my collection of 6 other movies that I've deemed worthy enough to actually watch more than once. It will become part of - the Gibson Christmas tradition along with "It's a Wonderful Life" and "The Sound of Music". So, it's the most wonderful time of the year, we wish you a Merry Christmas and yes Virginia there really is a joyful family movie to go and see this year. Shovel show carefully Fact: Many fatal heart attacks occur after each heavy snowfall. The Safety Council warns everyone to be careful when shoveling snow, especially if you are over forty and relatively inactive. They offer the following advice: - If you have a history of heart trouble, do not shovel without your doctor's permission. - Avoid shoveling immediately after eating, and do not smoke while you shovel. - When raising shovels full of snow, lift with your legs, not your back. - Do not shovel to the point of exhaustion. Fatigue puts greater strain on the heart. - If you run out of breath, take a break. If you feel a tightness in your chest, stop shoveling! - rding Artist PAU WASSON & The Burnt River Band ba od STETSON 'featuring Jim Vaillancourt -Good Food ... Good Music .. Western Spurz .
