It turned out to be a close-checking affair with both teams creating a number of scoring chances in the early going. With 6:36 remainifig in the third period Lindsay finally opened the scoring, and then added another a minute and twenty seconds later to win the game 2-0. Goaltending, shared by Scott Honey and Kurtis Wagar, was particularly sharp. They made several key saves to keep Port Perry in the game. ' The defense also played exceptionally well keeping the number of shots down while not allowing Lindsay to capitalize on rebounds, Justin Koury and Justin Shinn, and Gord Smith with Ryan Petites stick to their game-plan by Diane Cooke Saturday Dec. 3rd, the Port Perry Shepstone Haulage Petites were scheduled to play Pickering but due to Pickering participating in a tournament the girls played an exhibition game against their arch rivals Whitby. Alaina B. opened up the scoring for Port 4 minutes into the game with assist going to Sheena. Port's next goal was scored by Kelly assisted by Alaina D. This was Kelly's first goal - way to go. Next was a goal by Whitby to make jt 2-1 for Port. Alaina B. scored on a pass from Stacey. Whitby scored - then it was 3-2 for Port. Stacy scored from Janna and 3 minutes later scored again assisted by Kelly and the first period ended 5-2 for Port. At the beginning of the second period Whitby down 5-2 tried to come back but many great saves by goalie Jill kept them from scoring. Port Perry regained their dominance of this game. Katherine stole the ring and broke in from the, defence to score unassisted. Stacey finished the scoring on a pass from Janna. Final score Port 7 - Whitby 2. : Whitby played their usual hard checking aggressive style, this resulted in their team being assessed 4 penalties to Port's 1. Our girls were unphased and stuck to Coach Barry's game plan which led to Port's largest victory over Whitby to date. Next regular season game is scheduled for Sat. Dec. 10th vs. Markham in Markham. Goaltending and team defence continued to be strong as Port Perry travelled to Beaverton for a Novice tournament. In the opening round, they allowed only 1 goal in two games, and went on to win both games; 2-1 against the home team, Beaverton, and 6-0 versus Newmarket Kevin Robins opened the scoring against Beaverton with 2:56 remaining in the first period. Lucas Fraser added the insurance marker midway through the second. Jordan Froats assisted on both goals. Beaverton played a strong third period, scoring with 1:53 left in the game, however, Port Perry hung on to win. In the second game Port Perry outplayed Newmarket and posted a 6-0 victory. "Earning the shutout were Kurtis Wagar and Scott Honey. Opening the scoring in the first shift of the game was Pat Lewis with Gord Smith and Justin Koury drawing . assists. Eighteen seconds later Lucas Fraser scored his second goal of the tournament after Chet Martin and Jordan Froats controlled the corner and earned assists on the play. Kevin Robins then scored his second goal of the tournament, assisted by Joey Lane, to round out the scoring in the first period. With a 3-0 lead going into the second, Port, Perry continued to dominate. Joey Lane scored with an assist going to Kevin Robins, then Kevin Robins added his second of the game on a nifty pass from Ryan Hynatko who put Kevin in the clear. Ted Howarth completed the scoring with assists from Joey Lane and Kevin Robins. With the two opening round victories Port Perry Pearce Auctions' earned a spot in the "A" Division semi-final against the Sutton Rangers. Once again, Port Perry found themselves in a tight-checking game. Ted Howarth opened the scoring for Port, at 8:50 of the first period, on a strong effort to get in the clear. Beaverton tied the score early in the second period. With the two teams tied at one a piece the play went end to end in a very exciting game. Team defence was strong for Port Perry throughout the game. Tyler Weisflock and Alex Nicolaou were particularly effective in their backchecking and Justin Shinn played very well on defence. Midway through the third period Sutton scored on a breakaway to win the game 2- 1. : However, Port Perry should be very proud of their performance as they continue to improve on their play from week to week.
