wy 18 -- Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, December 20, 1994 Community rallies behind Debra-Ann Taylor by Heather McCrae Debra-Ann Taylor has always felt the people of Scugog make this community a wonderful place to live and work. But now she's positively sure as over a hundred people attended a luncheon and silent auction at the Port Perry Lions Club Hall in Manchester, held in her honour on December 13. Debra-Ann was one of the victims shot in the bank robbery on October 20 at the Port Perry plaza. Three members of the Durham Regional Police Force, Detective Paul Mooy, Constables Warren Ellis and Mark McConkey, along with Bank of Montreal manager, Al Knight were wounded in the robbery. Debra-Ann was the only one of the five without income protection while off work from her real estate job, recovering from her injuries. It was for this reason the Port Perry Lions Club and members of the real estate profession in Scugog teamed together to stage this fundraiser in the form of a luncheon and silent auction. The hall, filled with. members of the real estate profession and other businesses and friends came to support this worthy cause. Because of their concern and donations from several businesses towards the auction, the entire benefit was a success. Two draws, one having a first prize of $1,000., supported by the Lions Club, and another draw for a Walter Campbell Limited SEASON'S JOYTO ONE dll fixed up with love, laughter and happiness. Debra-Ann hopes to be back to work in the new year and there's one client she's looking forward to meeting already. While she was convalescing in hospital she received a phone call from a man in Burlington. After seeing an interview with her from her hospital bed and learning of her plight, he phoned to ask if she was the wounded real estate agent he had seen on his TV. « "Do you still consider Port Perry to be a safe place to live?" he asked.
