wy» 2 _ Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, D b 20, 1994 No link in killer bacteria The Durham Health Unit has ruled out any common source for the meningitis bacteria that killed two Bowmanville teen- agers earlier this fall. Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Linda Panaro said ™ Monday a thorough investigation has revealed there is no link between the cases of meningococcemia that occured in Clarington recently. + "All cases had group C bacteria, ¢ but further lab testing proved they were not identical. This means there was no common source of the bacteria for the 16 year old and the 13 year old," she said. With help from the general public who volunteered information, the Health Unit was able to conduct a thorough investigation into the two deaths to come up with the finding that the cases ge not linked.
