wy 42 -- Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, December 20, 1994 eg Gamblers hand the Blazers a defeat (finally) Week 16 of the Scugog Mens Hockey League brought the reign of the Harrison Blazers to an end as the high-flying Crandell's Gamblers handed them their first defeat of the season. However, the Blazers remain in first place going into the "Special Christmas Weekend" next week, tied with the Monsma Chargers with 25 points a piece. The other big news on Sunday was the success of Bill Owen's Operation Scugog Campaign for SHL members. A special thank- you is extended to all league members who supported this cause from organizers, Bill "Roc" Owen and Billy Eade. Game 1 saw the Pizza Delight Devils get their act together to defeat the Van World Sharks 6-4 and bring their season to a fairly respectable "500" atop the Gold Division. Bob Beveridge led the Devils with a goal and 3 assists. Todd Healey also got in oh the act with a pair of counters and a single helper. Ken Smart Jr., Steve Dunn, and Bruce Smith with a "200 ft. empty netter", all had singles. Ken Smart St. had a pair of assists, while Smith, Tim Ashbridge, and Bruce Gracie counted one each to complete the Devil attack. Phil Cochrane paced the Sharks with 2 goals and an assist. Mark Jobb and Wayne Fox both had a goal and an assists each, while Reg Templeman, Mike "Tate" Adam, Randy Prosser and fill in goaltender Don Card figured in the scoring with single helpers. Game 2 saw the Pineridge Phantoms dominate the Compton Comets to pull once again to within one point of the leaders. Steve Fox led the Phantom parade with 2 goals and 3 assists for the fine 5 point outing. Jim Fowler netted 2, and singles went to Sean Fewer and Robert Van Camp. It was all Chargers as they "cruised" to a 5-0 victory to give Don Card the shufbut. i Bill Bridge led the way with a pair of goals. Brad Hurst, Tony Oxley and Jason Warner all added singles. Assists found Dave Thompson, Bob Lee, Lee Wilbur, Paul Van Camp and John Robertson all with singles as the Monsma crew got back to their winning ways. Game 4 saw the Fitzgerald Clippers "trump" the Taylor Aces 3-1 as Clipper forward Larry Pilkey went on yet another scoring spree. It seems that the vacation to the south has brought Pilkey back with even more moves and his "hat trick" was all the Clippers needed. Jody Peters notched 2 assists with Glen Hudson counting the single. The lone Ace reply saw Mike Kane find the net from Dave Brownson and Ken Little. Game 5 brought the spectators to the fence and sent them away. "buzzing" as the Crandell's Gamblers ended the streak with a strong 3-1 victory over the Harrison Blazers. This proved to be the best gam of the day as the Harrison g; poured on the gas, but tHe Gamblers stood strong to give the rest of the teams a gift in time for Christmas. Glen McCoy, Carl Durham and Dave Bourgeois had the Gambler tallies. Mark Decosta had a big game as he set up all 3 goals. Durham also had an assist to complete this Gambler victory. The lone Blazer reply saw John Harman net one from Darcy Milligan and Dave Roth but that was all "Old Man Scrooge", Bob Strickert, in the Gambler net would allow. The IGA team dominated this weekend's games with back- to-hack shutouts against Markham and Pickering. Saturday night, Port's Junior girls were warmed up and ready to challenge Markham who was tied for first place in the league with Port Perry and Whitby. By the end of the first period, Shona Moase & Lisa Boner had each stuffed the net with one a piece. The defensive trio of Natasha Burgess, Bonni-Jo Norton and Brooke Shanley played a solid game, allowing no goals. The new lineups proved to work well and by the end of the game, Shona had pocketed another. The team proved hew well they can work together' and the first shut-out of. the season was well- deserved by all. Sunday - once again all were in attendance for this game. Leaving the Pickering team in shock, the scoreboard didn't remain the same for long as a third goal was scored before 33 seconds had passed. The scorcboard climbed higher with goals from Card VanderSlagt, Janine Hammond, Shona Moase and twice more - Lisa Bonser.
