prt _Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, December 20, 1994 -- 45 4 nin RISON JELS The annual Pért Perry Juvenile tournament last Saturday attracted eight teams and Eimvale defeated Beeton 4-1 In the final. At right is Rich Hales, Game MVP, Eimvale captain Mark Therrien and Beeton captain Chad Zanelll. It was a disappointing tournament for the Port Perry Key-Bar Juveniles who defeated Uxbridge 2-0 In the early mornirig opener, then lost by the same score to Beeton to bow out of contention. A player from Innisfil who had to be taken from the ice on a stretcher and by ambulance to Port Perry Hospital Is going to be okay with strained néck muscles. It was felt Initially his Injuries were much worse. The player who checked him Into the boards was givep a match penalty. Tournament was sponsored by Emlel's Place Restaurant In Port Perry. Atom A's shake the monkey On Dec. 17, our Malmont Atom "A"s got a monkey off" their back as they endured for a 5-4 win over Peterborough. Mike Koury started between the pipes for Port and was given the "Best Effort" award by the coaches. Trevor Weisflock made a nice wrist shot to open our scoring with an assist by big rookie Jamie Smith. Gogl number two was by Adam Moynes on a nice setup after circling the net by centre Mike LeFort and a helper by Dean VanCamp. Our second period score was by Justin Moffatt on a scintillating rush after receiving a pass from rugged defenseman Scott Duncan. We went up 4-3 on Jeff Tarbotton's goal with linemates Trevor Lance and Justin assisting. Peterborough kept pace however and tied the score late in the third. It looked as we would have to settle for one point, until, with just over a minute left in the game, Dean VanCamp connected on a high wrist shot from the high slot. Adam Moynes and Mike LeFort assisted. The night before our "Green Machine" Malmonts hogted the Belleville lads and as expected this wouldn't be the game for us to turn our fortunes around. CMB 1995 From page 44 hardball divisinn were not recognized in a press release last season. That being said, we will do so now. In the Pee Wee division, Causeway Cougars made a clean sweep winning both their division and tournament. Raglan Industries were the divisional winner in the Midget division. The hardball teams play teams from Port Perry through an affiliation with Scugog Baseball Belleville were up 3-0 after one period as they took advantage of a turnover, good , forechecking and a goalmouth scramble. Early on the Malmonts skated with them but we were terrible in controlling the puck on our 2-man advantage power play. . In the second period, Malmont goalie D'Arcy Stephens made several fine glove saves. Tyler Houthuys and Steve MacLennan were working hard to limit traffic around our crease. Our only score of the game came in the second when Trevor Lance cooly kept control of the puck behind the Belleville goal on a delayed penalty call and he spotted defenseman Tim Jones cruising into the slot. Tim rifled the puck low to the gloveside to ruin the Belleville shutout bid. Belleville scored several more in the third period to end up with a 7-1 win. Our offensive hi- lites in the third were a breakaway by Dean and a 2-on- 1 chance by Jamie and Mark Duncan. Jamie just missed on a wrap-around chance. Dane Gray did some good work in taking pucks off Belleville forwards in his defensive corners. The Malmont squad also were treated to a little hockey tion over the kend as they scrimmaged against a huge free-wheeling team called "The, Dads plus Diane & Teresa". Also they had their Christmas party this weekend and thanks go to the VanCamps for their bravery in hosting this group of "Angels". Next home action is Fri. Dec. 23 at 8:00 pm when we host the Stouffville Clippers. First, on December 12, we were at : home against Uxbridge. This was a great game, as Shane Savage came up big. He stopped all 36 shots he faced for the shutout. At the other end of the ice, we managed to score 5 goals, to send the Uxbridge. players home with tears in their eyes. Our first was scored early by Mike Morden who picked up a pass from Nick Skerrat and cut to the net. Somehow Mike managed to flip the * puck over the tenders shoulder and into the net. Laird also assisted, getting the puck over to Skerrat at the far end of the ice. Hnatko scored next, sliding the puck on the ice and between Uxbridge goaltender, Jack Marks' legs. Smitty and Morden the two speed demons assisted. Shawn then scored again, this time going to the top corner, assisted by Adam Hobbs. Hnatko was on fife, 1 think that Hnatko hates Uxbridge, because he was playing with a twinkle in his eye. Our fourth goal was scored by tough guy, Adam Hobbs, and 'assisted by Rob Murphy, who made a beautiful pass up the middle, right onto Hobbsy's tape. Unfortunately, Hobbs had to leave the game early with a bruised shoulder blade, and scratched arm after slamming into the end of the rink with two Bridge players on top of him. Our final goal was scored on the power play. Colin Laird kept in a clearing attempt by Uxbridge and got the puck in front to Smitty, who slapped 'er home down low. Hnatko also assisted for his third point on the night. We played well in this one. The only down side is, I don't think that Uxbridge will ever want to come back to play a friendly game of hockey. Oh well. The next night we were off to our favourite destination, Cobourg. The barn seemed to be extra cold on this night, and the reffing was to be expected. We came up a goal short, as we only played 2 periods of hockey. In the middle frame we were 'RIVERBOAT skating around like it was public skating. What was going on? We were short Murphy for this pne. He injured his wrist the previous night, lending a hand to the Port Perry Panthers. Goal scorers were Tindall, Hnatko, Strickert and Morden. Lenny made some crazy saves in goal, but not that much help was offered in the way of clearing the puck. and defenders out of our end. Norton, Strickert, Morden, Shaggy, Froaty, Hnatko and Laitd all picked up assists. On Sunday we were in Stouffville to complete the road trip. We were pretty sloppy in the first two, and it didn't get too much better in the third. This one ended in 8 tied 1-1 game Our only goal was "scored on the power play. Norton got the puck to Murphy on the point. With a Stouffville forward coming at Rob hard, he made a great move using a spinarama, and then slid the puck to his defence partner (at the time) Colin Laird, Lairdy broke in from the line, and got a shot on goal, only to watch Strickert slam in the rebound. That was it. It was a tie game, that should have been won by us. This week's player profile is on Shawn Hnatko. TKO is from the Brooklin area and moved to Scugog in the last few months. Nat King Cole has 3 goals, and two assists in the past three games, and is on fire. Tatanka is a great guy, but you'd hate to be playing against him because he's a mean sucker out on the ice. Shawn missed a few games this year, and now that he's back he wants to make up lost time. "Come out to the arena on Monday nights at 7:30 to watch a great display of natural talent and raw power in our team. We may not have been playing completely up to par lately, but we'll get back on track. We just need a little support", says Hnatko. Remember folks, Monday nights at 7:30, excluding Boxing Day because it's included in the twelve days of Christmas. 15 Water St. Port Perry oar 985-3081 CUSTOMER Nod adie 7. ype] eJ.\4 SATURDAY, DEC. 24th to 6 PM CLOSED - December 24th at 6:00 PM CLOSED - December 25th & 26th OPEN - NEW YEAR'S DAY {A =2]{=Te . yp ofe ll] lo] R= od {ed V.\ Extra Large PIZZA with FIVE Toppings Plus FREE Garlic Bread 'Free In Town Delivery' 17.50 in ONLY SENSE EERENNNENENSRURENNARRAENNES
