Strong effort by Larocque at Pee Wee tournament The Larocque Electric Pee Wee house League team participated in the Annual House League Invitational Tournament on March 15. Larocque defeated Lindsay in the opening game 3-2, but lost their second and final game to Newmarket by a score of 6-2. In the first game Larocque fell behind two goals, but John Barton played an outstanding game in goal to keep Larocque in contention, The Electrical gang turned on the power to score three consecutive goals. John Sanders opened the scoring in the second period at 9:07 from Nick Ostafichuk and Jeff Harrison. Larocgue turned the momentum e game around as Jamie Page scored at 5:08 on a pretty two-way pass from Ken Ellis and Nick Ostafichuk. The winning goal was scored at 2:10 of the second period by Mark Delaney. Ken Ellis won the face off draw and Delaney found the corner on a low slap shot from the blueline. The third period saw John Barton making key saves as Mike Dalby and Rob Taylor came close for Larocque. Brian Gaudet and Gavin McAllister provided excellent defence and Larocque's solid checking line of Ian Bonser, Ryan Kehoe and Cam Vernest kept Lindsay off balance throughout most of the third period. Game two, Newmarket 6, Larocque 2. Larocque's checking line turned into a productive scoring line in game two. Larocque's first goal was a classic two on one break. Ryan Kehoe and Ken Ellis broke in on one lone Newmarket defender. Ellis faked the shot, slid it over to Kehoe through the defenceman"s feet and Kehoe made no mistake in one timing : it through the five-hole. Later in the third period Jamie Page and Rob Taylor used determination and strong forechecking to set up Cam Vernest who poked in his own rebound. This was a rough and tumble game in which both teams refused to give up any ground. Larocque's goalie John Bartori again stood tall, stopping over' 30 shots in this game. Larocques hext contest will be this Saturday against Big V in the final round-robin tournament. The championship game will be played April 1. with, a short-handed goal to make it 2-1. "Key Bar struck quickly with 2 goals in the span of 3 minutes. Daryl Vanderligt scored on an un-assisted effort, and then Jeremy Norton made it 4-1 on a great passing play from Ian Shrigley and Kenton Lefort from the Port Midget squad. But Parry Sound was far from finished in this one as they rallied for a couple of goals to make it 4-3 heading into the third period. It looked like this narrow margin might hold up as Key Bar held the opposition off the board from the start of the period. But Parry Sound forced overtime with a goal late in the contest. The home team was able to capitalize on the momentum that carried them: from the 4-1 deficit and made it 5-4 early in the overtime period. Key Bar liad their chances to tie the contest, but with 34 seconds left, their hests iced the game with an empty netter for a 6-4 opening game victory. Key Bar coaching staff remains very confident that this group of players is capable of bouncing back in this series to repeat as the all-Ontario Juvenile champions. The codches, managers and players are hoping for a big turn- out of fans when the 'series swings into Port Perry this coming Saturday night, March 25. Face-off is 8:30 PM at the Scugog Arend, so why not cheer on these young men and catch some fine hockey in the process. Doors close season at Ottawa major tournament This was the final weekend of hockey, for 'the Pee Wee Overhead Doors as the team travelled to Ottawa for a Major B Hockey Tournament. This tournament was supposed to be above our "calibre" of play, but as'it was our grand.finale wrap-up, we just wanted to have fun, In our first game we met a team from Nepean, who would have made the Eiffel Tower ook small. The size difference wasn't the determining factor in this game, as the breaks didn't come our way and we lost 2-1. Little - did we know that we would have our turn at Nepean later in the tournament. Our second game was beginning to take the form and results as the first game, but this time it was in our favour as we won 2-1 against Vanier. There was no heavy partying on behalf of the boys (the parents were another story) the night before our third game, as we were aware of the heavy competition we would have to face, and the tournament rules: that stated that in order for us to advance to the semi-finals, we would have to score at least 4 goals, so that we could knock out Nepean for a play-off spot. Well like I said earlier -we paid our dues to Nepean by beating Kanata 5-2 and advancing to the semi-finals. "Well, so far we were quite impressed by the size of the teams we had faced, but when Canterbury stepped on the ice for the semi-final game, we had wished that Hulk Hogan could have been our competitor. It was going to be a bitter fight to the very 'end. The final score | of this game was not indicative of the teams' performance, as . each player on the team displayed endless effort, determination and heart to try and win this game-not only for the bragging rights, but also so they could stay the extra night at the hotel. The final score was 6-2 in favour of Canterbury. Honourable mention goes to all the plays' of the team...for team performance. | Well, the 94-95 hockey season has come to an end for us, but we would like to let the boys know that it was an enjoyable season -both on the ice and off, and with the wins and losses. Unfortunately we were stopped short of the All Ontario's in the semi-finals, but it was 100% heart and determination that got us there in the first place. . It was a learning experience for the coaching staff, and we hope that each and every one of you learned something too. . We hope you enjoyed the year as much as we did, and we would like to thank the team for a fun season, and the nice cards and presents that we received throughout the year. (They make up for the low rate of pay). Just remember guys that "winning isn't everything, but making' the all-out effort to win: is the most important thing." -
