- TF Sougog Olfizen~ Tussin Apri BL I005 es - Collector has nearly 1000 * egg cups in her cupboards by Heather McCrae With all the hype today about eggs raising cholesterol, fewer people are eating them. And it's probably because of this, fewer households have egg cups today But Pat Stott, of Port Perry, can't seem to collect enough of them and today is well known for her grand collection, all 990 of them! Innocently enough, she says, it was her husband, Malcolm, who started her collection. He had been given a duck egg cup by his godfather in 1934 when christened. After Pat and her husband met and dated, they married in 1962 and the little egg cup became a part of their household, but only for a short while. Carrying too much in her arms when they moved into their apartment, it fell from her grasp, smashing to smithereens on the floor. Twenty-six years later, in 1988, Mvhile they were browsing through the antique shop at the Queen's Quay, Harbourfront, Malcolm approaghed her with a big grin on his face and, clutched in his hand, was an identical egg Sh was'like finding an old friend" she said. Need]ess to say, the little duck came homé and it wasn't long before other chicken and duck®Wriends came home to roost on the shelf to keep it company. + Now, Pat has an egg cup collection that houses egg cups from all over the world. Pickin markets and from dealers, she told the Citizen it hasn't really been a costly endeavour. Purchasing egg cups anywhere from 50 cents to $20. each, with the rare exception of a few - costing more, most are from the era at the first part of the century. "It's fun to decide which era they've come from" she said. In 1990 when she was teaching in California Pat began to do research on a collector's book of the 300 odd egg cups she'd acquired by then. She was halfway through this project when Malcolm died of cancer, With gentle persuasion from her children, after his death, she continued with her research and "The Collectors Book of Egg fhem up at antique shows, flea * Pat Stott Is an avid collector of egg cups.
