The clippings are a free and natural fertilizer. Experts state that Grasscycling improves the quality of your lawn through natural méans By ding so, the grass clippings release valuable nutrients like nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus back into the soil. These nutrients feed your lawn and protect it against disease. Cut approximately one third of t/ the length of grass to promote the rapid breakdown of clippings. Thatch is a result of abnormally fast growth of roots and other plant material caused by improper fWftilization and/or over watering your lawn, not grass clippings. Grasscycling encourages a deeper root system, to provide better resilience during dry weather periods. Clippings actually reduce evaporation of water, thus maintaining a greater supply of moisture to feed your lawn. Grasscycling also saves time and energy, By leaving the clippings on your lawn, you save approximately one half hour in raking and bagging every time you mow the lawn. Any lawn mower can grasscycle provided that you keep the mowing blade sharp, and cut the grass only when it's dry - but never during a drought. J Cut the grass to an ideal height of two to three inches, water up to one inch' per week and you should 'notice an overall improvement in your lawn. Some of the grass clippings can also be utilized in your composter - add a thin layer of dry grass to your composter every other mowing or dig them into your flower beds or vegetable garden for fertilizer. Grasscycling is a simple, effective way for every resident to do their part for the environment - it reduces the amount of waste going to the curbside, - and the cost of operating a fleet of trucks required to collect these bags throughout the growing season. . Fewer trucks means fewer pollutants going into the atmosphere. Mulching helps retard the germination of week seeds and slows the growth of those that do germinate. The soil is kept moist, making weeds easier to remove. The whole weed must be removed, a tiny piece of root left in the @eround can start a whole new crop. Dandelions must have the whole taproot removed; otherwise they will grow back. Remove weeds before they set seeds, and never put mature weed seedheads into the compost pile. The heat generated in the compost may not be sufficient to kill the seeds. Weeds are often imported in manure. Chicken manure is particularly rich in weed seeds. Be wary when adding uncomposted manure, you may be creating problems which will be diffizult to clean up. Weeds will still appear, the seeds can blow in, be brought in by birds and small animals.or be in the soil. A few minutes each day removing small weeds will prevent the problem becoming a marathon.
