' -p 12 -- Scugog Citizen ~ Tuesday, May 3, 1995 > Pg New league should take what its given To the Editor: Over the past months we have read all the articles concerning the baseball feud between Cartwright Minor Ball and Nestletop Hard Ball. We have held our comments as we have last week's article has made us want to respond to the issue of diamond time. One of the articles last week read that the Nestleton Hard Ball complained that the CMB and the Nestleton Hall Board had all d di d times for not attended any of the ting concerning all the problems - but their league only on Friday nights or weekends. We attended the yearly diamond scheduling meeting for the Nestleton Park in early April. This meeting was chaired by the Nestleton Park Board. As members of the Nestleton Mustangs Ladies Team, we have played at this park for many MP should check fa To The Editor: Durham MP Alex Shepherd better check his facts before pointing a finger at Ontario's New Democsatic government. The federal Liberal government has, in fact, shortchanged Ontarians. Thanks to the Paul Martin's budget, Ontarians will be shouldering 54 per cent of the cuts in transfers. Yet we make up only 38 per cent of the country's population. And Mr. Shepherd complains about the provincial government funding important projects over the past few months. Did he expect government busigess to come to a stand still while we waited for a provincial election? Did he want the government to stop investing in projects that lunch hour ... SUNDAY BRUNCH will create and stimulate economic renewal? And what about the Liberals' promise to create jobs? If it hadn't have been for the participation of the Bob Rae provincial gdvernment and municipal partners, the Liberal® could not have even invested in the Canada-Ontario Infrastructure program. I'd also like to point out to Mr. Shepherd that the provincial goverament's expenditures during the last quarter were well below the same period over the previous three years. So much for his ridiculous claim of vote buying. And let's compare the Bob Rae record to that of the previous Peterson Liberals (which from 11 to 2:30 PM RR#2, Shirley Rd. PORT PERRY (905) 985-1598 included Lyn cts Under the Liberals, the cost of running government went up 34 per cent. * Gord Mills and the Bob Rae government brought it dows by 24 per cent. And it was the first government in the last 50 years to show a program spending decrease. And despite the federal government offloading massive cuts to Ontario, the Bob Rae government is showing that it can manage the. store and balance its operating budget two years from now, one year ahead of schedule, That's 'What I call realistic gnd responsible government! Sincerely, " Lucy Rybka-Becker Durham Region YMCA OF GREATER TORONTO years. The meeting is always well run and fairly routine. We would say CMB was there in the same caphcity as ourselves as were of s. We all wanted Store Times are not assigned at this meeting. They are taken first by existing leagues and individual teams with the remainder left for, pewcomers. When it came down to Nestleton Hard Ball's choice Friday nights were available. They reluctantly fook this. : After some discussion we, as reps from our team, decided to offer them our 9 away times. Still unhappy they said they would take this issue to council. 50 Registrants - 6 teams - 4 diamond times - too much for too little. In talking with CMB, we were told that their numbers are only down by one team. If this is a fact, it would not free up much of the already "over a diamond time of the 7 parks that they use. Why has council been drawn into this problem? Why are our taxes being used on an issue that should never have been. Bottom line » before you form a new ball league, your responsibility is to make sure you have a place to play or be prepared to take what you're given. . Patti Alpe and Wilma Wotten Blackstock Take that, Gord - Letter to Gord Mills Dear Mr Mills: In reference to your letter condemning Port Perry doctors for closing their offices in a manner which you did not see fit, you obviously had to consult the dictionary before using the word "claptrap". They are dedicated and hard working. They do a lot more than just save lives and their services go far beyond the call of duty. What services have you performed as M.P.P. that are worthy of mention? You represent a 'group of people who call themselves the party for the working man, but you are no more for the working man than the man in the moon. Doctors do not cause hardship, but the NDP does and you proved this by the Social Contract which is nothing more than just another way for Bob Rae to use someone else's money for his own benefit. Many people were seriously affected by this Contract. People with mortgages got far behind and it affected many other people's finances in other ways. Your poligigs all seem to be the same, spend money and raise taxes, like everyone has an endless pot full of money. Your party has done little or nothing for this province. You obviously don't like white males, you have ruined the heslth care system and have made a complete mess of the dump situation. When does socialism take priority over democracy, when politicians can trample onto someone's property and claiming it to be a potential dumpsite, and ignoring the person's right to protect his or her property? In such a case, it does not mhtter if these peofle owned their own property. As far as the NW is concerned, they have no fights and are suppose to succumb to those who consider themselves superior. Where would we be without doctors! You obviously don't seem to worry about it, and before you do any more criticizing, take a good look at your own self, because some day you may need a doctor to save your life. H.
