Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, May 2, 1995 -- 13 Pr In defense of Gord To The Editor: I personally cannot allow the several attacks on our Durham East MPP Gord Mills, the hardest-working MPP this riding has ever had, pass with out a reply. Mr. Clayton Connell's letter was more of an attack on the NDP position on freedom of choice, rather than a defence of the doctors' mass shutdown of their offices. The doctors of Canada have been opposed to any kind of government-regulated health care syStem since its inception by the Saskatchewan CCF government of Tommy Douglas 50 years ago. They have gone on strike in different provinces, vilified and harassed governments of all political stripes and continue to do so to this very day. The mass shutdown of doctors' offices was recommended by the doctors' union, Ontario Medical Association, and supported by the Port Perry level of that union. I do not believe that the doctors of Ontario will be satisfied until they blagkmail Ontarians into having pl medical system or abolish the system completely. That is why so many of them are moving or threatening to move to the USA. Re: Lori Kay of Bowmanville, I would say that all MPPs get the May 1-7 compost awareness week To The Editor: " May 1-7 is being observed as the first Composting Awareness Week, and Scugog's Green Team has organized an information session to tie in with this national event. People are invited to come to the Latcham Centre at 7:30pm on Wednesday, May 3rd and pick up some tips from Peggy Clark, veteran composter. Local resident Jay Thibert will discuss 'vermi-composting' (composting with worms). Composters and printed information will be available, and there will be a draw for a free composter. For those who can't make it but who want to know more about composting (one of the most effective means there is of reducing garbage 'output), Scugog Library has several helpful videos. Janet Banting, Greenbank. same allotment of funds to operate their constituency offices and that Gord Mills never spends his full allotment and returns the unspent amount to the Provincial Treasurer. By comparison, Lyn McLeod overspent the 1993 Liberal operating budget by 10% or $336,000. If she can't manage her Liberal operating budget of $3.9 million, how is she going to manage a $57 million Ontario budget? And she wants to be Premier. As for Llewellyn Jones of Nestleton, may I say that the doctors do'hgve the right to close their offices on mass, but they did so as a protest against the Social Contract. Their moral obligation to serve the people of this area was secondary to their objection to the sharing of the economic burden of these times The highest paid profession on average in this province would like to shift their share of the depression onto others.
