A => - 14 -- Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, May 2, 1995 Lp * by Heather MPCrae The life of Daniel David Palmer, founder of chiropractic, was portrayed in an informative talk and slide show held in the Head Church at the Scugog Shores Museum last Thursday evening. > Guest speaker was Dr. Herbert , a founding member of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC).in Toronto. This year is a three-fold anniversary, and a very significant one in the eyes of the chiropractic world. One hundred and fifty years ago, on March 7th, 1845, Daniel David Palmer, founder of chiropractic was born in Port Perry. Fifty years later on September 18, 1895 Palmer made his first adjustment on a patient and chiropractic was founded. This year is also the 50th anniversary of the CMCC in Toronto. It was in 1938 when Palmer Park in Port Perry was dedicated and the chiropractor's statue was dedicated in August 1946. Dr. Lee was there for both events. "I remember the day the statue was dedicated: Dorothea Koch, one of the guests at the meeting recalled, "It was raining and we all stood under our umbrellas to attend the event" she said. A good piece of news Dr. Lee passed on to the captive audience was that three stamps commemorating the three milestone dates in chiropractic - will be issued this year. With ten stamps to a booklet, there will be a little piece of history printed on each stamp. These three commemorative stamps will be issued this September to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the CMCC and celébrations in Port Perry. The condition of the D:D. Palmer's monument is deteriorating. The Durham Region Chiropractic Society has received a quote for $10,000. to upgrade the monument which will be done once funds have been raised for this project. Dr. Lee said the D.D. Palmer's homestead, where retired chiropractor, Chuck Bathie, now resides will someday be moved to the Scugog Shores Museum grounds. "There's a strong possibility it (homestead) will be donated and moved to the museum" he said, "and would be a wonderful a Join us from 12 Noon to 7 PM for a Mother's Day Burret $14.95 SUNDAY, MAY 14th For reservations call (905) 655-3754 WEDDINGS ® SEMINARS ® BANQUET HALL 55 SNOWRIDGE CRT.
