Not present: Kile Simms Pee Wees still perfect at 6-0 in York Durham play The Pee Wee MoJacks have been very busy this past week as they 'have increased their wins in the York Durham League to 6 with no losses. The boys were at home to Fennell's Corners and managed to earn the 5-3 win with only 4 hits. Chris Jones took to the mound and allowed only 3 hits, 3 walks while striking out 9. Defense was very strong in this game as there was only one error committed. Chris Monsma played very well at second base as he had to do some great covering at first since the Fennell's team tried to execute some bunts to get on base. Jeff Ashton picked up a triple and a single while mike Versage was the oply other batter to get hits as hé picked up a double and a single. On Thursday night the boys travelled to Vaughan for another league game. This was a very long game for the boys as there was no time limit and the umpire had a very narrow strike zone. Between the two teams there were 30 walks issued. At the plate Mike Versage lead the way with a double and a single. Mark Richardson picked up a double while Jeff, Ryan McBride, Chris Jones and Matt Sturgess picked up singles each. Pitching duties had to be shared for this one as Ryan McBride started and allowed 6 walks, 6 hits and struck out 2. Mark Richardson came on in the fifth inning and gave up 4 walks, no ¢hits and struck out.4. There were 2 defensive highlights that deserve mentioning on this game. In the third inning Nick Isaacs made:a™ great over the shoulder gatfh in right field and in the fourth Sean Jeffrey made a nite dive and roll catch in eentre field. Keep up the good work guys. Final score + 13.9 for Port. - On the weekend the boys travelled to Cobourg for the first tournament of the season and came home with Championship honours. Our first game was against our rivals from the York Durham League, the dreaded Bramalea. ' Chris Jones took to the mound and was definitely up to the task as he only allowed four hits. His control was right on as he issued no walks and struck out 4. Defense was also up for this game as there were only 2 minor errors made that did no'damage at the plate. Mike Versage made a couple of great catches at third, one a line drive and the other in foul territory. Chris Monsma also made a long running catch in left field to help the cause, Jeff led the boys at the plate with a homerun, a triple and a single. He really likes to get up for Bramalea too. Mike Versage continued with his very hot bat this year with a triple and a double. Aaron Lycett and Mark Richardson both picked up a single each. Chris Jones was hitting the ball well this game too however, he was robbed by both the left and centre fielders. Final score 7-1. In the second game of the day our opponents were Richmond Hill from the league also. Mark Richardson was the pitcher for this game allowing 5 hits and 5 walks while fanning 3. The defense came up strong again in this game as there was only one error made. Peter McKitterick had a very strong game out in right field as he made three good catches. Ryan McQuade had a good game at short stop also. Jeff picked up 2 singles while Ryan McQuade and Sean Jaffrey. notched a single gach. "The boys were movin, the base paths and foreed Richmond Hill to make some throwing errors which they were able to score on. Final seore of the game 6-4 for Port. After the game the boys were paid a very nice compliment by the umpire as he told the coaches that<she boys were a treat to umpire and that they played a good game ofball. Afver.a very short tunch break Mike Versage went into the Ggld Glove competition for the team and represented the team very well as he placed third in the competition. Way to go Mike! , The third game of the day was against Wellington. Ryan McBride pitched a complete game allowing 9 hits while 'giving up no walks. No errors were committed in this game. The boys bats were warmed up? well for this game as they launched a 14 hit attack on the Wellington pitching staff, however they did not get the hits together and left 5 runners stranded. Jeff had 2 doubles and a single, Mike had a double and 2 sipgles while Darryl Dalton picked up 3 singles. Ryan McBride hit a double and a single. Mark Richardson, Ryan McQuade and Chris Jones picked up a single éach. Final score 11-9 for Wellington. Even with the loss the boys had the best. record in their round robin so it put them in the final against Napanee. Chris took to the mound one more time and was pumped for this one as he struck out 8 batters and gave up 6 hits. Chris gave up his only walk of the day in the sixth inning and then dug. deep and struck out 3 of the next 8 batters to take the win. There was no scoring in the first two innings of play. Port picked up a run in the bottom of the third as Darryl reached on a fielders choice, was advanced to » second on Mike's first of three singles and scored on asingle by Jeff. Port picked up 2 more runs in tHe fourth as Chris and Aaron Lyc#tt picked up singles and ~ scored on a deep single to nght fie]d by Ryan McQuade. = panee scored two runs in the fifth and one in thé sixth to tie the game at 3-3. In the top of the seventh inning Port made it 3 up 3 dgwn and the top of our order wals coming to bat. Darryl flied out to second base and Ryan McQuade hit a hard shot at the pitcher to be thrown out at first. The hot hitting Mike came to the plate and picked up his third single of the day to gight field. With two out and & runner at first Jeff came to the plate and hit a gapper between the left and centre fielders to score Mike from first. Fina] score 4-3 for the Mojacks. What a way to finish. Congratulations guys! Soccer news Under 8 Division Laurentian Bank's team started off their season with a win over The Kid's Store. Kalea and, Kristen Renaud and Owen Pett proved to be excellent runners and Mitchell Johnson displayed fancy footwork, , « They came up just short in their next match-up, despite good play by Sara Scott in net, and a nice running game by the ' Samis boys. Ray's Towing doubled the Lion's Club for a'4-2 win, thanks to a hat trick from Evan Haslam and an added point by Pam Deanike. Jackman Coordinators and Framer's Gallery both played hard for a three all tie. Goals were scored by Timothy Edwards and lan McIntosh. Layla Keyes- Renaud and Graeme Brown were super in goal. Under 7 Division Last week saw exciting action when Smitty's Sharks narrowly defeated Classic Aluminum, 54. Brent Heppy led the way for Smitty's with 4 goals. The added marker by Roman Vigliotti put them over the top. Classic Aluminum never gave up, with Troy Wagg scoring twice, and one goal each by Cassandra Aked and Shayne Taylor. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 419 provided an amazing display of ability with a 3-0 win over Manvers. Justin Hockley led the scoring with 2 goals, and Glen Baker added the third. Honourable mention goes to Bradley Knight and Kaitlyn Baker for excellent effort. Under 11 Division The Legal Eagles remained undefeated in regular season play with a 4-1 win last week over the Scugog Citizen. Ryan Hamelinck opened the scoring assisted by Lee Chambers, -and added another on a nice pass from Derek Goreski. Derek, who has scored in all of the Eagles games to date, kept his streak alive 'with .an unassisted marker. Sarah Auridge showed awesome ball tontrol and was rewarded with her first goal of the season, assisted by her sister Ashley. Kaily Baxter played a strong game in her mid-field position. The Citizen's continued to press until they spoiled the shut out, with a goal by Greg Jeffrey. Brian's Towing also looks to" have a very strong team, coming up with very big scores in recent match-ups. Last 'week they recorded a 10-0 victory. Nick Murphy scored first, Matthew Kamminga was devastating with three goals and two assists, 'Stormy Wooton also notched a hat trick, and Tim Lamb, Kevin Robins and Todd Lance scored one each. They nearly matched that performance in their next game against Scooters, winning 8-1. Kevin Robins and Andrew Evans combined to provide the near perfect goal tending. Goals were scored by Matthew Kamminga, Nicholas Murphy, Kevin Robins, Todd Lance, Stormy Wooton and Tim Lamb. Lisa Leszkowicz got her first assist of the season and Megan Vaughan did very well on defence. 'M&M Meats just edged out Willowtree Farms in their very exciting 2-1 match. M&M's two, markers were scored by Justin Shinn and Jennifer Cini. Willowtree's goal was scored by Erin Slack. Julie Ann Domik, Alex McKay and Jordan Beelby kept the scare down with terrific defensive play. Strong offensive play by Meghan Smith and Josh Sobil kept the farmers in the game until the final whistle. Burketon General Store did well against Nature's Bounty. Four goals were scored by Philip Cudahey, three by Derek Richardson, and two by Greg Vanleyden, for a 9-1 victory. Ghance Morison was fantastic in net. Nature's Bounty fared better in their game against Darlene Colton Photography, when they came up with a 2-0 shutout. Nicole Ansell and Scott Lennox were the iigoal scorers. Honourable fhention goes to Scott Symes and Grace Michel. These mosquitos really like the heat It was a very Hot 'Saturday afternoon for the Moore Lawn Carp Mbsquito age baseball team as they hosted Havelock at the Fairgrounds. This was 'a fill in game from the rainout earlier in the month and was thus the third game of the week, and the second victory, for the Moore Mosquitos. The home team started strong in the field with a one, two, three, first inning. Pitcher Scott Evans allowed only 5 runs spread over 7 innings on the U-17 hits After a bit of a slow start this season the Scugog Boys Under 17's have come up with their first win of the season. / ° Sponsored this year by Herbally Yours Health Foods, it took twq, losses (Whitby 1&2), 'and a 3-3 tie with Hampton before the boys got things on track: In the Hampton game, Rob Murphy had 2 goals and+ mound.
