= 3 +Scugog Citizen -- Wednesday, July 5, 1995 Most boaters accept pay-for-launch fee Scugog Township's pay-for- launch program started over the Canada Day weekend and the reaction from boaters was mostly positive, said Jeff Brown. Jeff, along with Amy Parliament have been hired by the Township to collect the $5 # fee from people putting their * boats into the water at the "municipal launch just north of the Scugog Memorial Library. There were a few grumblers who had some unpleasant things to say and several boaters just turned their vehicles and trailers around to find a place to get their boats into Lake Scugog without paying they $5 fee, he told the Citizen late Sunday afternoon. The pay-for-launch fee was initiated by Scugog Township council and will run from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM each Saturday and Sunday and holiday Monday until the end of the summer. There is no charge to take a boat Day camps for kids This year the Scugog Museum is offering 3 day camp sessions for children aged 6 to 11 years. The Pioneer Adventure Camp runs from July 17 to 28 and is being offered in conjunction with the Scugog Township Day Camp During these two weeks, children will spend mornings at the museum and afternoons enjoying outdoor activities and crafts. From July 31 to August 4, children are invited to spend 5 full days at the museum learning about life as it was for Pioneer and Victorian children Old-tyme games, crafts and a tour of the museum buildings fill the days with fun. For the August 8 - 11 session, children spend 4 mornings at the museum comparing life in the 1800's to the modern conveniences of today. Games, crafts and historic recipes bring the past to life. While collecting the $5 fee, Jeff and Amy also handed out printed forms to boaters explaining exactly what the program is about and that revenues will be used strictly for future improvements at the launch area such as dredging, ramp extension and landscaping in the immediate area. Jeff said the vast majority of the boaters at the launch are from out of Township, some from as far away as Windsor and Quebec. Scugog Township residents can purchase a season-long pass for $25 available at the municipal office during business hours. Jeff said one of the recommendations he will turn over to council is to have a season long pass for out of Township boaters as well, at a slightly higher rate. It was a busy three days for Jeff and Amy as 88 boats went into the water on Saturday, 139 on Sunday and 96 as of mid- afternoon on Monday. At times during peak periods, they had to serve as "traffic cops" helping to speed up the launching process. The pay-for-launch has been started as a pilot project. Council will make an assessment at the Veterans From page one government by MP Shepherd and on behalf of the people of Scugog Township by Mayor Hall. Several veterans unable to attend the parade and ceremony will also receive their certificates and others will be getting certificates at a later date as well. It was an occasion to not only honour these veterans. for their service to their country during the last war, but also to pay tribute to their fallen comrades who gave their lives. The large crowd was silent and the veterans bowed their heads as a bugler sounded Last Post and Reveille. A Harvard Mark 1V trainer aircraft made several passes over Palmer Park during the ceremonies, the sound of the motor almost drowning out the words of Mr. Shepherd as he spoke to the crowd. He noted end of the summer to determine whether it will be in effect again next year. honoured that even today, 50 years after the end of World War 2, Canadian soldiers are still in the line of fire as peacekeepers in war-torn Bosnia. : The following veterans received their certificates at the ceremonies July 1.
