GRUMB | WLLBILL IES { Adam Davidson, Brian Bickmore and Matt Rolfe had excellent performances at recent open try-out camps held by the Toronto Blue Jay organization. See story below. Ball players hope for invite to SkyDome Three young baseball players from the Scugog area are hoping to get an invitation to the SkyDome next month. No, they won't be sitting in the seats watching the Blue Jays, they'll be on the field showing their stuff to scouts and instructors in the Blue Jay organization. The three, catcher Brian Bickmore, first baseman Matt Rolfe and outfielder Adam Davidson have been at Blue Jay "open try-out" camps in Newmarket and Port Hope recently. Their chance to get an invitation to the SkyDome depends on how much they impressed at the open camps where they competed against other young (ages 15-19) players from all over southern Ontario. Brian and Matt are members of the Cartwright Express of the Nestleton Hardball League, while Adam plays for 'the Grumble Hillbillies of the Scugog Baseball League. The "open" camps in Newmarket and Port Hope were conducted by Jim Ridley, the Ontario scout for the Blue Jays. Each player attending camp had to run a 60 yard time trial and then demonstrate fielding skills at their respective positions. Based on this, coaches selected - a few to remain at the camp that day and take part in a scrim -style game that would m show off their fieldin, wing and hitting skills. . A computer was used to evaluate the players skills and provide Blue Jay staff with the names of those who will be invited to the SkyDome camp next month. Nestleton Hardball League is in its 1st season of competition. The Scugog Baseball League has been in operation for three seasons after the Port Perry Fair Board constructed a regulation size hardball diamond at the Port Perry Eairgrounds. Without that diamond at the Fairgrounds, there would be no hardball for youngsters in Scugog Township.
