808 Citizen -- Tuesday, August 15, 1995 --5 I by Heather McCrae Applications are now being received at the Scugog Memorial Library for the Kent Farndale Art Bursary. In its third year, the Bursary is available to persons of all ages in Scugog Township and for any type of art related course. The bursary, established at the library in honour of Kent The Monster trucks thrilled thousands of spectators over the weekend at the annual Janetville Off Road Jamboree. Big Foot, Carolina Crusher and Excaliber had no trouble running their way over several crushed automobiles, and a lot of spectators took the opportunity to go for a ride in the back. Other activities included mud-bogging, racing and concerts on Friday and Saturday nights. Farndale who, for several years, has introduced Scugog Township to a wide spectrum of artists, is fully supported by donations and administrated by Jane Litt, Barbara Carnegie and Cathryn Hall. The bursary is open to artists in all fields of work, from painters and sculptors, fibre artists and jewellers to those involved in music, dance and theatre arts. Last year's recipient of the Kent Farndale Art Bursary was thirteen year old: Katie VanCamp, a very talented ballet dancer who attended the prestigious Royal Winnipeg Ballet School where she graduated from grade eight. This year Katie is pursuing her academic and dance studies at Montreal's L'ecole Superieur de Ballet, and will be living with a french speaking family. For Katie, winning the bursary was a great honour.
