Beaver Lumber bats hot in CMB hardball Beaver Lumber vs Cartwright Overridge Stars 33-5 A hard hitting game by Beaver Lumber tested Cartwright Overridge players. Gerrard Timmers, after scoring 3 runs, was slowed down when he caught a ball with his teeth (hope the teeth are OK) and then returned to the game to hit a double. A bummer of a hit' got Matt Campbell on base, however it didn't interfere with his good fielding. Tim Brady had a great night pitching with 4 strike outs, and 3 fly balls caught. Stephen Jensen also pitching well had 3 strike outs. Kurt Campbell made an excellent play to throw the runner out at third base. Good. fielding also by Susie Gerrow. Christa Lane hit a triple and Alicia Burgess'stole 1st base. (That's why you always run-it is ible!) Squirt arms strong On August 14, our Squirt Rep Fastball team travelled to Newmarket for a makeup game and the kids got to play under the lights for the first time this season. The game was very exciting as Newmarket held a 2-0 lead going into the final inning but our lads loaded the bases; scored one and almost pulled it out til Mike Wiseman's hard liner was corralled by the SS. Mike LeFort pitched excellently for Port and gave up just three hits, one walk and notched nine strikeouts. Both runs in Newmarket's 2-1 win were unearned. In addition to making a good pitch-out throw to second, catcher Matt Skerratt scored our only run after leading off the final inning. Tim Jones léd our bats with a single and double while Jeff Kane, Matt and Geoff Grieveson had our other hits. Adam Lamb had two walks and Luke Pilkey earned a lead-off walk. David Akermanis had some good swings in his first at bats. - It was good to see a tight game for a short hand@l Legion squad. Thanks to to Jake Pilkey for acting as our back up player in this one. After a good practice the following night the team was off to Stouffville on August 16. The rivalry with Stouffville was evident as both teams played well. In an upset outcome the "Blue and Gold" boys left town with a well earned 5-0 victory. Tim pitched well for a complete game no-hitter and our team defence was sparkling to support him as we made just two errors. Matt Skerratt and Mike LeFort combined for a successful pitch- out at second while second baseman Adam Lamb and first baseman Mike Wiseman put a forceficld around their side of the infield. Devon made a good catch in right field for the final out of the game. Wiseman also alertly threw to LeFort at second for a heads-up forceout. Tim had 12 strikeouts and four walks to earn the win. Our offence was led by Jeff Kane's clutch triple in addition to a leadoff single in the third. Adam Lamb had a nice single and perfect bunt hit. "Windows" took two hits by pitches to help the team. BioGuard's residential kit performs complete poolside tests for free chlorine, total bromine, pH level (proper balance of acid/alkali), and total alkalinity (keeps pH in balance), quickly and conveniently. Here are some tips from BioGuard for accurate water testing: . Always start with a clean testing vial and fresh reagents. Test chambers should be rinsed with clean water after each use, and liquid reagents should be replaced at the beginning of each swimming season. Foil- wrapped tablet reagents are good for up to three years. . Check the free chlorine level. The ideal amounts is 1.0 to 1.5 ppm (parts per million). . Check and adjust the total alkalinity (TA). TA is a measurement of the "buffer" capacity of your pool water, which prevents big changes in pH and helps avoid corrosion and staining. For different types of pools, you should maintain different levels of TA: For plaster 80- 125 ppm; vinyl, painted and fiberglass, 125-150 ppm . Test and adjust the pH. The correct range is 7.4 to 7.6. This is probably the most important test for your pool. . . Make sure you keep your test kit in a cool, dry' environment out of direct sunlight. This will contribute to maximum shelf life. . At the beginning of each' season and a couple of times during the season, take a sample of your pool | water to your BioGuard Authorized Pool and Spa Care Centre for a professional, computerized laboratory analysis. It's absolutely free! BE 239 Queen Street Port Perry (905) 985-9746 e | BioGuard Authorized Pool and Spa Care Center
