Little did he know, that first time in the ring would launch him into a career in the dairy industry, taking him around the world. As a young lad living in Markham Township, Bob was involved in 4-H, but his projects were always beef cattle. In 1934 the family moved to a 150-acre farm _in North Oshawa, tontinuing to raise beef. Ten years later, the family bought its first purebred Holstein and that dairy breed has become a tradition in the Flett family since. As for why he switched to dairy, he said "it looked like more money was in milk than beef at the time". The first purebred calf born on the farm was the one he showed at Port Perry Fdir in 1946 and was later nominated as an "All Canadian". After he and his wife, Vi, married in 1949, the couple took over the family farm.
