Second country music agent of the year honours by Heather McCrae When Cathy Faint was named Agent of the Year in the Canadian Country Music. iation in 1994, she thougt it was nice. But when the Port Perry woman claimed the Award again this year, she thought it was "pretty cool". For the past 16 years, Cathy has been an agent in the music industry, always booking bands and artists for dates at fairs, festivals and tours throughout Canada. Starting out first in rock 'n roll, she switched to 'new country' seven years ago. "I guess, as we get older, our tastes change and I switched to country seven years ago," she Port Dart League now at 24 teams 'The Port Perry Dart League continues to grow. Now starting its third year, the League had added four moge teams to 24-with ten players on each team. League president Al Light said he's not sure why darts has become so popular in Scugog, but notes that the League stresses the "social aspect" of an evening out. And it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get started. A decent set of darts will set you back about $25. You can pay a lot less or a lot more, depending on your and pocket book. And for those who have never played darts, joining the League will guarantee a warm welcome and plenty of expert instruction on the rules of the game. This year the League will have a different format for playoffs, said Mr. Light. After the 24- game round robin, the teams will split into an A and B division for playdowns so that all teams have a reasonable chance. The teams play every Monday evening at bars and restaurants throughout Scugog township starting at 8:00 PM, There 'are a few opening left on'a few of the teams and anyone interested in joining is welcome to contact Mr. Light at 985-0119 or Roy Povey at 985-0940. The Port Perry Dart Léague has certainly grown in leaps and bounds. It started three years ago, as a challenge between two local pubs-- Winchester Arms and Antrim House. Antique show at PPHS The Port Perry High School in Port Perry will be the place to be October 14 and October 15 for the Annual Port Perry High School Antique Show. If you are looking for that special antique this is the show you can't afford to miss. Come early to the show, then plan to spend time touring wonderful Victorian style Port Perry. There will be 80 dealers from across Ontario displaying top quality anti Featured will be American and European art glass, English and , Continental porcelain, antique and estate jewellery, Royal Doulton glass, brass, copper, china, Victorian silver, linens, clocks, pottery, silverware, dolls, pine furniture, tools, cranberry Canadian pressed glass, kitchen primitives, country furniture and smalls. The event is being sponsored and organized by the PPHS Music Department and proceeds are used to fund the music programs. Admission is $3.00, Seniors $2.00 and if you get hungry, light lunches are being served. The Port Perry High School is located at 160 Rosa Street. \ smiled, during an interview with the Citizen at her Port Perry home. Focussing on Canadian Country recording artists, like Michelle Wright, Prairie Oyster, George Fox and Patricia Conroy, to name a few, her company, Catherine Faint Live Music Services based in Toronto, provides her with a lot of excitement. "I've met a lot of interesting people and know most of the artists out"there working," she said. "The whole entertainment business is never routine". Meeting a lot of exciting people she says she never gets bored - but it can be a grind. too! "It's a service industry," she said. "These people, most of the time, depend on me getting m work". At the September 18 Country Music Awards Show on CTV, Cathy was the co-ordinator of the entire show which was a first. She must have done a, great job as she's already been asked to co-ordinate next year's i gala affair. Currently working on a small theatre tour for 'Dan Seals, formerly of Seals and Croft, and John Fagerty, she says she was really pleased when she was named Agent of the Year for the second time at the recent President's Dinner. Oppers Aluminum was presented with the award last week from Wolverine quality' vinyl siding and accessories. Phill Freeman, the territorial manager for Wolverine .for Ontario and New York State, and Cynthia Ormsby of Daycor Exteriors, presented Bill and Aubrey Oppers with the award, "This is a national award for builders for outstanding work on the exterior of a home," said Mr. Freeman, adding it was the only quch award of excellence Wolverine handed out for 1994. Oppers won the award for . their work on the Utica home of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Compton. The award is made for both workmanship and creativity using Wolverine siding and accessories. Aubrey said he very pleased with the work done on thé Compton home. "When we were finished the job, I felt it would be worthwhile to submit the application for this award," he told the-Citizen, and he said his company is very proud to have received it. Mr. Freeman said Wolverine products. not only look very attractive and are virtually maintenance free, they add considerably to the value of a home. The submissions for this award were judged by a panel that included an architect, builder, homeowner and personnel from Wolverine. Museum Musicales Truly "a good time was had by all" who attended the three Musicales in September at the Scugog Shoreg Museum Church. We do have a wealth of talent in our area.
