Matt told the Citizen that on most Saturdays the Dragons are divided into two teams (the Whites and the Blacks) for their game. But they will be heading to Toronto on several occasions to meet the Tornados, founded more than 14 years ago. Matt plays centre or wing and says he gets his biggest thill on the ice by putting the puck in the net. He collected a hat trick in the scrimmage game last Saturday. The Durham Dragons were formed by Dave, Giga and Cindy King who spent more than nine months working out the details to get this team on the ice. They felt the time had come in Durham to make special hockey a reality. Matt's father read an article about the Dragons in a Toronto newspaper and suggested to Matt that he give it a try. Matt has played hockey for several years and is an avid NHL fan. His favourite player is a guy called Mario and he likes the Toronto Maple Leafs "most of the time." Later next month, the Dragons will play in a tournament in Ste Louis and they'll get the chance to take in an NHL game between the Blues and the 'Leafs. In February, they are booked into a* tournament ip Parry Sound. , "There are aot of kids who would not be able to participate in hockey," said Matt's Dad, Brian. "They may not have the physical skills to keep up or they may get discouraged." With the Dragons, age and ability mean nothing. Everyone gets the same treatment on and off the ice, and there are numeroug volunteer coaches to give the players all the necessary tips and guidance. Just two weeks into its first season ever, the Dragons are still looking for sponsors for individual sweaters at $200. And with ice time and some travel coming up this year; the organization will also gladly , accept public donations to help off-set the costs.
