Atoms tie 3-3 On October 12 the Pineridge Sports Atoms hosted Mariposa and ended up in a 3-3 tie. Strong two way hockey gave Port control of most of this game. Good goaltending by Andrew Fancy and Peter Konstantinopoulos enabled the strong offensive play. B.J.Schaump led the offence with two goals, one on a great tip in off Pierce Jones' point shot. Tyler Lee scored the other on a nice rush. Joey Lane had two assists in the game. On the weekend the Pineridge boys were in tough at a tournament in Parry Sound. Game one saw them play Glanbrook (Hamilton) and come out on the short end of a 6-0 score. This game was a lot closer than the score indicates. Game two was against the host Parry Sound team. Port boys jumped into an early 1-0 lead on a goal from Jesse Mullins. Even the good defensive work by Wes Langmaild, Justin Koury, Garrett Brown and joey Lane could not keep the powerful Parry Sound team off the score sheet. The boys did shut them out in the third period. Game three was an exciting one with the Pineridge boys losing 2-1 to Mississauga. We had many chances to tie this one but good saves and bad luck would not let it happen. Both goalies played a strong game. "Way to go Andrew and Peter". Tyler Lee who had a strong tournament scored Ports only goal! on a nice rush and deke on the goalie. All the boys learned a lot this weekend and should show the effects in the next few weeks. * Midgets win 5-4 The Canadian Tire Midget "B" team travelled to Ops last week to play their first game this year against Omemee and had to fight their way to a 5-4 win. The Islanders played well in the first period but didn't get on the scoreboard until there was only 59 seconds left in the second period. Dave Kaminga scored Port's goal on a great unassisted effort. Omemee was leading the game 3-0 by the end of the second and before ending the period a fight broke out on the ice when an Omemee player charged our goalie Doug Short. Before the period was over Omemee was less five players and we were short four. In the third period Port took control of the game and at the 12:11 mark Ashley Vanschelven from Ryan PYckrin. Less than a minute later Todd Parry scored after converting a great passing play from linemates Matt Blowe and Adam Smith. Then Smith and Parry tied the game at four apiece on another great passing play. Todd got our winning goal at 3:04 when he made a nifty move on the Omemee defenseman and caught the goaltender napping. The assists on this goal came from defenseman Trevor Smith and Chris Drury. Brian Bickmore played between the pipes for the first half of the game, Doug Short for the second. Both boys made a number of great saves and Doug gets the prize for the most shots (literally) on him, scored in assist coming oD Seugoy Citisen -- Tuesday, October 17, 1995 --33 4 Flames nip Senators 2-1 This week in SHL hockey the Ball-Callery Senators took on the Harrison Fldmes in an action packed game at 7:00 in the morniug. Forty seconds later Amanda picked up a loose ring and scored unassisted. Port kept pressing but Oshawa got one back. The Eaglettes went right back on the offensive and knotted two more before the first period ended on goals by Amanda Curry assisted by Trevor Doe and then another ! goal by Ceiligh Baxter assisted by Jessica Doe to end the period with a commanding five to one lead. . The second period started much the same as the first with the Eaglettes scoring a thjrd goal by Jessica, a hat trick! Oshawa was not finished though and came roaring back with four unanswered goals cutting the Eaglettes' lead to one goal, however the girls dug in and shut Oshawa down with great goaltending by Jill Hunter, solid forechecking by Brooke Simpson, Catherine Copeland and Caitlyn Hallingman.
