/ + Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, November 28, 7995 --13 4 Rap against bus driver not completely fair To the Editor; In last week's Scugog Citizen, Mr Walter Edwards verbally attacked a school bus driver for fleeing the scene after backing their bus into a parked car. This bus driver apparently had been parked in the IGA parking lot when this misfortune happened. I agree, that it was wrong of this driver not to have stopped and claim responsibility for their action, if indeed they were aware vehicle thereafter? that they had hit something. However, I don't agree with Mr Edwards when he said that this driver not be allowed to be inl charge of our children. I wonder if Mr Edwards or , anyone else for that matter, had hit a parked car and fled such as this driver did, should they then also not be allowed to drive their Bus driver or Sunday driver, an accident is an accident. If this incident qualifies the bus driver as being inadequate, then -it also qualifies all , drivers under the same circumstances as being inadequate. Just for the record, as a comparison, I, a school bus driver, was parked at the Canadian Tire Plaza on Friday November 17 at approximately 10:45 a.m. I was parked in a proper space with numerous empty spaces on either side of my bus. While I was in Sears, my son, who chose to wait for me outside of the store, witnessed an older model brown coloured car, choose to park along side my bus. The older gentleman driving the car, misjudged the distance and cut too sharp. You guessed it. He sideswiped the front of the bus bumper. The bus shook, making it obvious to my son (and I can only assume to the driver of the car), that he had hit it. Instead of doing the proper thing and waiting for me to return and 'report the or leaving me his car, park your bus as far away as you can, as this might be the same bad driver. v Sherry Chamber« Nestleton A cautious and courteous school bus driver name and number on a piece of paper on the windshield if time was a factor, he chose to hit and run. Fortunately, my son wrote down his licence plate number. Unfortunately, because this happened in a parking lot, not much can be done about it. I wonder if Mr Edwards would suggest as a result of this, that All older gentlemen not be allowed to drive for the safety of our school children. It could be one of them, instead of a school bus that he hits next time. I wonder, would he stop then? I also wonder if Mr Edwards would say to all school bus drivers, that if you see an older model brown coloured IDEAS + For 'Special People' with 'Special Needs' LUIGI & TED'S North South Futons The Port Perry Girl Guides movement recently donated several books to the Scugog Memorial Library on such topics as the environment, crafts, games and the GG Association.
