wm 22 -- Scugog Citizen -- Bunt fiorente 28, 1995 ModJack power play pure dynamite * by John B. McClelland Teams in the Central Junior C Hockey League are quickly learning something about the Port Perry MoJacks. Give them a power play opportunity and chances are the puck will end up in the , net. The MoJack power play has developed into a potent force in recent games and the team used the man advantage superbly over the weekend as they won games over . Sutton. Ice and Campbellford Rebels. Against the Ice in Sutton on Friday night, MoJacks fired seven (count 'em seven) power play markers as they romped to an impressive 10- 1 victory. And the following night in an inter-locking match with the high flying Rebels in Warkwort all three MoJack goals came with a man advantage in a 3-1 | victory. The 10-1 win over Sutton more than made up for a 3-2 loss the last time these two rivals met. MoJacks struck early and often in this one, rolling up a 4-0 lead after, the first period, adding two more in the second and then hit, double figures in the third period before the Ice finally got on the board With just 1:09 left in the game to ruin netminder ick Hutchinson's bid for his second shut-out of the campaign. The club's leading scorer Keith Leslie continued to put big numbers on the scoresheet as he came away with a six point evening'an two goals and four assists. * Mike Pigeau, also on a scoring tear of late, /fired the hat trick for the green and white and chipped in with a couple of assists as well. Other goals came from Al Hurlbert, Kenton LeFort, Todd Dennis, Chris Foster and Steve Barkwell who also had three assists. Mark Otorico was the lone Sutton skater to get a puck behind Hutchinson. While the MoJacks were busy filling the net when they had ~ the man advantage, they didn't give the Ice the same opportunity as they took just half a dozen minor penalties. The last time the MoJacks and Campbellford' Rebs hooked up at the Scugog Arena the game was a wild, high scoring affair that ended in 9-9 deadlock. Things were a bit different Saturday night in Warkworth as the MoJacks cautiously puilt a 3-0 lead by the mid-point of the third period on a pair of goals by Todd Dennis and a singleton from defenseman Matt Pyke. "The Rebs lone goal came midway through the third off the stick off Cal Larmer. MoJack fired 35 shots at the Rebel net while Paul Robinson, looking for his second whitewash-of the season, faced 27 Rebel shots. The busiest guy on the ice was referee Rob Mills who called a steady string of penalties against both teams. SLAPSHOTS: The standings at the top of the Central Junior C League have tightened up considerably with three teams (Port Perry, Little Britain and Uxbridge) tied for first with 25 points. The Bruins moved into the tie with two weekend victories over the Merchants by scores of 7-4 and 6-4. Thé two weekend wins by 'the MoJacks pushed their un-defeated streak: to eight games (six wins and two draws) The team has not lost a game since Nov. 3 when they were downed 3-2 by Sutton. |, In those eight games the oJgcks have put 50 pucks behind opposition netminders. At the same time the goaltending tandem of Hutchinson and Roberts has been outstanding as they have held opposing Senators and Sharks battle it out for 2-2 tie by Andy Seeley Today in Scugog Hockey the Ball-Callery Senators fought the Van & Truck World Sharks in a hard hitting first game. * The game was opened by Al 'Bonner's goal which was assisted by Rob Evans and Dale Bronson of the Senators. Then Rick Olaisen was assisted by Jay Adam for the Shark's first goal. Following, Mark Decosta scored a second for the Senators with assists from Ken Jeffrey and Doug Seeley for their last goal. Then Doug Bache was assisted by Jay Adam .and Dave Brownson to finish'the game at 2-2. Game two was played by the J&D Carpentry Hawks apd the Compton Comets. The' game was "started. by Brian Norton's goal for the Hawks, assisted by John ' by Jason Warner and Bill Foote. To end the game, John Mackey scored with assists from Keijo Kinnunen and Steve Groves, ending the game at 4-1., "Game three hosted the Taylor Aces and the Pineridge Wolves. The first goal went to Darcy Milligan of the Wolves who was assisted by Clarence Stephenson. Then Todd Wilbur scored with assistgnce from Darcy Milligan. Following (that goal Daréy Milligan scored another with assists from' Clarence Stephenson and Todd Wilbur. Finally the Aces scored their only goal which was put in by Richie . LeFort and assisted by Bob McEachern and Gedrge Gladish. Game four was an Mackey. Bob Collins scored next, also assisted by John Mackey. Then John Mackey scored with assists from Brian Norton and Stéve Groves. Following their third goal the Comets finally scored their one and only goal with a quick shot from David Roth who was assisted lent game played by the , Pizza Delight Rogsters and the Fitzgerald Clippers. This game stayed at a nothing-nothing tie until the beginning of the third period when Tony Oxley, assisted by Brian Steyenson and John Haran, put a score of 1- 0 on the board for the Roosters. In game five the Harrison Flames massacred the Monsma Chargers 6-1. The first three goals were scored by Willy Edwards, the first assisted by Jim Beatty and Rick Hope, , the second assisted by Bob Lee and John Vaz. TheMhird was assisted by Rick Hope and Duzne Bronson. Following these ov came another by Bruce Smith who was assisted by Ken Harmgn. Finally the Chargers scored with a goal by Lee Wilbur, assisted by Brian Pomeroy and Jack Monsma, for their. only goal. The next goal was pdt in by Willy Edwards, unassisted. Duane Bronson was assisted by Rick Hope for the last goal. The final score was 6-1 forrthe Harrison Flames. Next week's schedule is marksmen to a paltry 15 goals. In fact, the entire team has been playing wery well defensively during this stretch, which is the kind of hockey head coach Chic Carnegie and assistant Brett Puckrin like to see. Can they keep the un- defeated string 'going? MoJacks have a very busy week with four games (two at home, two on the road) starting this Tuesday night '(Nov. 28) when they are in Uxbridge at 7:30 PM. On Thursday, they are back in Port to meet the Lakéfield Chiefs for an 8:30 Ice, who no doubt will be looking for a measure of revenge after the 10-1 thumping Friday night. Game time at the Scugog Arena is 7:00 PM. MoJacks record to date faceoff and on Saturday night this season is an impressive will 'meet the Chiefs in Lakefield. They round out this hectic week with a home game Sunday night against Sutton 11 wins, three ties and three losses. They have yet to lose a game in the friendly confines of the Scugog Arena. Between winning games Friday and Saturday nights, members of the MoJacks relaxed and had some fun at the Santa Claus parade. * Compton Novice action the second period. Still do The Compton Cable Novice B team headed to Ops arena on November 20, 1995. Wow! Want to talk about the fast-paced hockey. At the end of the first period - no score - maybe AJ's magic wand was doing the trick and our luck was changing. The spell only lasted the first period. In the '2nd, two quick goals put Ops on the scoreboard. in the third, an instant replay, with two more quick goals. With a 4-0 score, Port tried hard to fight back -- they even pulled the goalie for an extra attacker, but time ran out and the Ops goalie was awarded the shut out. AJ broke the wand, but I grabbed it for a souvenir. I guess you could say it was Oops in Ops. The Team Captain for this game was Matt Menear and the Assistants were Mike Redman and Tyler Cunningham. Friday, the 24th saw us back on hgme ice in an exhibition game against Oshawa's Little NHL Blackhawks. How we love those exhibition games. 'The Oshawa Blackhawks have come a long way since we first played them at the ginning of the season. as follows: 6:45 C Cable vs Monsma Electric 7:45 Fitzgerald's Weed Control vs Van & Truck World 8:46 J&D Carpentry vs Pizza Delight 9:45 Taylor Fuels vs Ball-Callery and Assoc. 10:45 Harrison Fuels vs Pineridge Sports They fought hard and deep. No score in the first period. The tension-was mounting on the bench and in the stands. The Coach had.made a line change. A defenseman had come up and a forward was moved to defence. The . fans took a deep breath. The clock ticked away in \ score. Chris Charron (fondly known as "C" by mom/dad and even the fans now) decided to change all that and made his move. Down the ice he went - in a blur - Look.Ma...two hands on my stick..Closer and @losér to the pipes. Could he do it? You got her dude -- and a pretty one it was. There was only 1:36 left on the clock, but this was still only the 2nd period. Could Compton hold on to the lead?. Was our luck changing or were the kids pulling together and struttin' their stuff. The time clock would tell. The third period started. The team and fans watched every play. I watched the clock. 7 minutes to go, 5 to go, 3 to go, 2 to go, 1 to go (oh that last minute was a long one). Buzzzzz - it was 'over and you've never seen 16 kids move so fast or jump so high in your life. It was a well-played game and Port deserved the win. Maybe the wand was working after all? Very fittingly, the Team Cartain for this game was "C" (Chris Charron) and the Assistants were Adam Smart and Mitch Truax. Way to go guys and gals!!! Neither rain, nor snow, etc. cdff keep the team from were we had to go on Sunday the 26th, We were in Millbrook foran away from home game. The kids were all fired up and ready to go after their win on Friday night. End to end, deep in the corners, you name it~This game had all the action. Fast-paced - with 7:10 left in the period, Millbrook apened, the scoring. Port managed to hold them for the rest of that period. With 6:22 left in the 2nd, Port answered Millbrook's first goal with one of their own. Craig Simmonds headed her down the ice with Matt and Chris Charron on his heels. 1-2-2 and it was in, or should I say 14, 15, 2 it was in. Not to be outdone, Millbrook came back with a quick insurance goal. The score could have been a lot higher if not for Sam Bennett and Kyle Geer protecting our net. They . were hot, hot, hot and made some speptacular saves. The Team Captai and Chris Charron. . : This is the beginning of a heavy week of hockey. Tuesday the 28th we're in Little Britain' against Mariposd at 7:00 p.m. We're . in. Blackstock Thursday nite at 6:30 p.m. for a practice, Friday night at 6:15 p.m. we are back in Port against Manvers.
