' In the second period Jamie «Smith, Steve MacLennan and Mike Thompson offered strong defense while Chet Martin and Mark Duncan kept the pressure on Cobourg's goal. Spencer Churchill, assisted by Pat Lewis, scored a short-handed goal from behind the net. With period one only two minutes remaining, Cobourg tied the game up' with a powerful offensive, Early in the third, Cobourg scored again. Justin Moffat was impressive against solid defense and Kevin Robins made an excellent shot on goal. Geoff Simpson scored a back-handed goal on a pass from Trevor Lance, tying the game again. During the final moments Derek Bond and Dylan Harper defeated strong Cobourg offense as both , teams struggled without success to break the 2.2 tie. < The Atoms continued their spirited play on Saturday against the ¥Oshawa Bruins. The Atoms outshot the Bruins but very skillful goaltending kept the game tied 0-0 in the first period. Early in the second period, Pat Lewis scored the first goal of the game. Port kept the pressure on with fast skating and crisp passing but the Bruins tied it up at 8:18. Derek Bond's hard work throughout the period paid off when he scored at 1:51 on a pass from Mark Duncan and Justin Moffat. The Bruins were strong in the third but Mark Lott, in goal, easily deflected their shots.-At 6:55, the Bruins scored again. With Justin Moffat and Jamie Smith assisting, Geoff Simpson scored a fourth goal for Malmont Farms. The final score Port 4, Oshawa 2. The Port Atoms opened well in-an exhibition game agdinst Bradford on Sunday night, with a goal by Pat Lewis assisted by Jeff Tarbotton. Justin Moffat, assisted by Kevin Robins and Mark Duncan made the score 2-0. Bra came back with a goal at 9:35 followed by two quick goals late in the . period. Bradford was ahead by two at the close of the second period. Mark Lott's fast action in goal way to keep Bradford from scoring for the rest of the game. Jeff Tarbotton ; on a pass from Kevin Robins jammed it in the Bradford net. Aggressive forechecking by the Port team resulted in a fourth goal, set up by Chet Martin and Spencer Churchill, scored by Geof Simpson. Geoff closed thé scoring for the game, assisted by Spencer. Final score for Port, 5-4. Lots of action for Pineridge Atoms November 9th Pineridge Sports Atoms hosted the LNHL Hawks in an exhibition game. The Port Perry team came up against a strong goaltender and came away yith a 7-4 loss. Scoring for Pineridge were Pierce Jones from Tony Boomsma and Jesse Mullins, Tyler Weisflock on a nice breakaway from a Stormy Wootton pass. Wesley Langmaid scored unassisted before Justin Shinn closed out the scoring with 'a Ward wrist shot from just inside the blue line. , Thijs game . saw the introduction of Chris McKitterick. November 10th the team travelled to Orono losing 6-1 and also Tyler Weisflock with a broken leg. Port's only goal came from Jesse Mullins. November 12th Pineridge Sports travelled to Grafton for an exhibition game; against Bowmanville. The Port Perry gang jumped out , toa 3-0 lead at the end of the first period. Tyler Lee opened the scoring with a shot from the left faceoff circle. Wesley Langmaid made it 2-0 picking the lower corner from well out, Chris McKitterick picked up his first point with an assist. Hard forechecking by Wesley Langmaid and Ryan Hnatko set Stormy Wootton up for the third goal. Port allowed Bowmanville back in the game in the second period by giving up 2 goals and missing many chances. Going into the third with a 3-2 lead Joey Lane made a nice rush and scored with a backhana. Chris McKitterick scored the next on agbounce off their player's skate. The final goal came with Garrett Brown picking up Stuart Cochrane's rebound. Justin Koury and Tony Boomsma and call up Luke Pilkey made a fairly easy day for Peter and Andrew in the net. Final score 6-2 Port. , play Belleville. November 16 the Pineridge Atoms hosted a good skating Uxbridge team and came up on the short end of a 5-2 score. The Port squad were very sluggish all game and had problems getting things going. Joey Lane was Port's only player showing spark, skating well and earning a goal and assist. Before embarking to a Sunday tournament in Picton the team had a much needed practice and it really showed as they played 3 strong games. Game 1 saw the Pineridge team skate to a 1-1 tie with Stirling. Great defensive play by Justin Koury, Justin Shinn, Pierce Jones, Garrett Brown and call up Luke Pilkey made light work for goaltenders Andrew Fancy and Peter Konstantinopoulos. Port Perry's goal came on an unassisted marker from Joey Lane. The team had 'many very close chances but were unable to get it past the Stirling goalie. Game 2 saw Pineridge After jumping out to a 3-0 lead,, penalty trouble let Belleville tie the game. Scoring for Pogt Perry were Tyler Lee from Joey Lane. Justin Shinn from Wesley Langmaid and Wesley Langmaid from Chris McKitterick. Peter Konstaninopoulos made many good saves in his half. ¥ Unfortunately the Port squad could not come up with another goal on many good chances. The game ended up as a 3- 3 tie. Because of the two ties and the tournament point system we ended up in the B final. This put us against Stirling for the second time. Stirling got 2 early goals and hung on for a 2-0 victory. Even losing this game the team played very well and had lots of scoring chances. . November 23rd Pineridge hosted the Oshawa Bruins and put together the best team effort for a 3-1 victory. Port's first goal came from an Hnatko with a nice deflection off a Tyler Lee pass. Joey Lane also earned an assist. Stuart Cochrane made it 2-0 after picking up a rebound and lifting it over the goalie. B.J. Schaump and Jesse Mullins earned assists. Port's final goal was into an empty net with Jesse Mullins doing excellent corner work feeding B.J. Schaump for the goal. Peter Konstantinopoulos is gaining confidence every time out and made many good saves. Andrew Fancy is coming up with big saves when needed and learning his positioning. The line of Wesley Langmaid, Chris McKitterick and Stormy Wootton had many chances and had almost all the play in Oshawa's end. Auctioneers tie Pearce Auction Novice hosted Sunderland in an exhibition game on Friday, November 24. Sunderland got on'the board first,' *poking in a loose puck, on a scramble. Port Perry came ke back as Kory Bauer flipped in a Keenan Geer rebound. Moments later Nelson Langmaid set up« Tyson Savage, who made no mistake, putting Port in the lead. Cassidy Weber enjoyed celebratigg a goal as he slammed in an Ashley Lucas pass. Sunderland bangedin 2 goals of their own to steal a tie in a Port Perry dominated game. bo On Sunday at 1 p,m. Pearce Auction went to Lindsay. Tight-checking and end-to-end play dominated most of the first period. Around the eight minute mark Port Perry found thiemselves in a penalty killing*position. This was successfully completed due to the excellent efforts by Kyle Mullins, Keenan Geer, Danny Halward, and Shane Jeffrey. Moménts later Tyson Savage scored the unassisted first goal of the game. Lindsay came back to tie it to end the frame. The start of the second saw Lindsay take the lead but Tyson Savage tied it again 10 seconds later. Assists went to Ashley Lucas and Cassidy Weber. 15 seconds later, Tyson completed his hat-trick popping in an Ashley Lucas rebound. Michael Lycett made some nifty moves through the defence and neatly put the puck in the net. Assist went to Matthew Roth. Lindsay made it 3-4 and pulled their goalie to try to get the equalizer. Pearce Auction left with the win against a choppy foe.
