NHL Oldtimers will visit Uxbridge Arena NHL will also be lacing up their skates. Many will remember Dave Tataryn when he by: Heather McCrae Some great hockey talent will be displayed 'by several former NHL Allstars January 13 at the Uxbridge arena. The evening, sponsored by the Uxbridge Baptist Church, is being planned by fifty- one year old Uxbridge resident, John Cavers. It's * also a way of replenishing the recently depleted Food Bank. Instead of paying admission at the door, hockey fans are requested to bring a donation to the Food Bank. John plays on a Christian hockey team every Saturday night in Uxbridge. Many of the players don't have a church affiliation. "It's an outreach mission of the (Baptist) church where we can extend an invitation that ipvolves the whole conimunity" he told the Citizen recently. When the Food Bank became depleted at Christmas, it was John's idea to host a benefit night of hockey with the former NHL Allstars. After contacting Christian Athletes in' Action in Toronto, he was connected with Teen Ranch, a non- denominational church group that promotes sports camps for people of all es. The Uxbridge Flyers, made up of individuals from several churches in, the Uxbridge area, will be facing off against the Teen Ranch Allstars at 8pm January 13th at the Uxbridge arena. Among the many stars on the latter team will be former Toronto Maple Leaf Ron Ellis and Dean Prentice who played 22 years in the NHL with the NY Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, and the Boston Bruins."
