od Berg CRT Tuesday, January 9, 1996=19 Port Petites strike tournament gold The Shepstone Haulage, Petite Ringette team had a very successful tournament over-the January 5th and 6th weekend. The team played their first game on the Friday against a team from Manvers. The lack of games over the previous 3 weeks certainly showed as the Port perry team was not playing up to their abilities. Although 'the Port teams opened the scoring, Manvers came back strong to take a 3-2 lead after the first period. Our Petites struggled to come back Tt just didn't have the breaks when needed. Port Perry clawed back to within a goal (4-3) with less than 3 minutes to play but Manvers sealed the 5-3 win with 46 seconds on the clock. Port Perry goals were scored by Jackie Pashley, Heather Imrie and Ashley Aldridge with only one assist being recorded and credited to Hailey Wilson. A highlight of the game was the tremendous effort given in goal by Lisa Geer. Even though the team lost the game, some good defensive and offensive plays were made by Whithey Reid, Holly Allison, Shannon Hatfield, Shannon Urquhart, Christine Cotie, Janna Ostafichuk, Melissa Dallas, Kristin Waller, Sarah Aldridge and Nicole Ansell. The next game for the Shepstone Haulage team was played later that day against Oshawa. The Port Perry girls improved their play in 'this game and totally dominated the Oshawa team for the first scored a short Handed goal, narrowing the Manvers lead to 9-8, with only 2:15 on the clock. Still short-handed, Port Perry kept the pressure on Manvers and pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, which resulted in another goal to tie the game at 9 with only 1:39 left to play. With Oshawa holding a record of 0-2-0, earning 0 Points, and Manvers a record of 2-0-1, earning 5 points, Port Perry needed a win or a tie against Oshawa to secure a place in the Championship twice in the round robin Game. format. These games set up a Championship Game between undefeated Manvers and second place Port perry. This final game was the thip game of the day for Port perry and the fourth for Mdnvers. The Shepstone Haulage team opened up the scoring and built up a 3-0 lead before Manvers was able to get on the scoreboard. With Port Perry leading 4-1 after the first period, Manvers scored early in the second' but was then held scoreless for the remainder of the game. Port Perry seemed tireless as they continued to play a strong, hard-checking game and was able to beat the Manveys goalie 4 more i to lock up an 8-2 Back to regular Saturday hockey on December 30th and Auto Wreckers took on the Scugog Lumber team. Whitby scored 1st at 4:29 on a goal from Greg Jeffrey assisted by John Dutka. The continued improvement of the team throughout the tournament certainly showed the girls that theirs hard work can pay off.
