A Quebec team claimed the Gold, while Italy received g.bronze finish and the HS Rlacgd fourth. In the junior division, a team from Brampton ~brought home the Gold while the girls from Unionville won the Silver medal. This is Sarah's first year on the team. So, to be part of a team that claimed the second place medal and Silver Cup was Very exciting. ' "I was proud. to be a Canadian", she told the Citizen, adding it was quite an emotional moment when O' Canada was played at the Spring Cup '96 award ceremonies. Besides Canada, countries competing were from the US, Italy, France, Switzerland, Russia, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Sweden. The panel of judges represented each country. While 'the "Ice Fyre" team . does fundraising events year round, each team mémber was to raise money for the trip © ovgrseas, too. Sarah's from her family, financial support came the Greenbank Lions Club and she was sponsored by Emmerson Insurance. While most of the girls didn't speak Italian, one girl spoke the language fluently. "I don't know without her" Sarah laughed. After the competition, which was held March 16 - 17, Sarah and her teammates went on a pre- scheduled coach tour through the Alps in Switzerland, on to Paris where they enjoyed two ° days of sight seeing. Conversing in French isn't a problem with the 17 year old as she speaks the parisian language fluently, having been a part of the French Immersion program since kindergarten. Sarah is currently in Grade 1 at PPHS. ' The talented skater is also a member of the Port, Perry Figure Skating Club where she holds her Junior Silver, Freeskate and Gold Dances: The "Ice Fyre" team is made up of skaters throughout Durham Region and Peterborough who range in age from 16 ® their mid-twenties, Currently, the team is ranked third in Cahada but is hopeful of bettering this at the Canadian Championships which are being held April 4 - 6 at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton. what we would have done '
