4 ' - 'w Seugog Oitzen- -- Tuesday, April 23, 1996-- 3 A Seniors' residential project gets final OK Work is expected to get underway in the very near future on West Shore Village, a residential development in Port Perry for seniors and retired citizens. Final approvals for the $8 million development* were signed this week between the Township and West Shore Developments Corp. after a long; three-year process that had its share of delays. But thé wait has been more than worth it for West Shore Developments president Gary Moore, a Port Perry resident who' They're off to see the Wizard -- halic Crh Students at | slate C ion C. I will pi the musical "Dorothy's Adventures In 0z", "an adaptation from The Wizard of Oz. There are two full casts of 135 students who will perform on alternate nights. The show runs from this Tuesday, April 23 to Friday, April 26 with, curtain at 7 p.m. In the school gym. Tickets at the door. In photo are Lesley Partington as Dorothy, Breanne Foote as The Witch, Jennifer Rennie as Tibia, Kristen Cobitz asThe Narrator, Tricia' Postma as The Scarecrow and Scott McCoshen, as The Lion. describes it as "very elegant," and one that he « "takes great pride in." In an interview with the Citizen, Mr. Moore noted that one of the major attractions for seniors and retirees is the location on the east side of Simcoe Street, just north of Perry Street. It's withip easy walking distance of many amenities such as shopping on Queen Street, the cultural centre Town Hall 1873, the Scugog Library Street, and the Latcham Centre on Water Street. Just a short distance to the east is Lake Scugog and the Rotary Park which winds its way along the shoreline of the lake. A pathway will connect the development to the park and the lake, Said Mr. Moore. West Shore Village is actually two residential components--a three- storey building of 62 bed- sitting rooms with central dining, a centre atrium, gardens and numerous veranda for a commanding view of Lake Scugog to the east. There are also 34 masonettes in two unit "clusters," each with 1250 square feet of living space, two bedrooms, a garage, extra parking space and armm800 square' foot loft that can be used for any number of purposes such as den, workshop or study. "This is the kind of facility that will maintain the dignity, the indepen- dence and well being of those who decide to live there," said Mr. Moore. For-example, the three storey building will have common meeting rooms and a cafe for coffee and light meals. Efforts will be made to keep the residents involved as much as possible in the planning apddlecision making. Dining and house- keeping packages will "be available to all residents as well as individugl care, depending on need. A lot of attention has been paid to "small details," like heated floor, systems in the masonettes to help keep the feet warm on cold or damp days. Arbour Living Centres will manage the develop- ment once complete. This company has about 30 similar developments under management in Ontario, ihcluding Peterborough Manor. Mr. Moore said the units will be offered under what is called a Life Lease-* concept. One very" important feature is that after two years the company will buy the unit back at the full purchase price. - There' is a" monthly charge to cover such things as maintenance, snow removal, garbage collection etc. Mr. Moore said there has been a lot of interest nerated in"the project among people interested in making their home there. Marketing will = be handled exclusively by _ Cliff Crowell of Ridge North Realty of Port Perry. Anyone wishing full details are inyited to call Mr. Crowell at 985- 97717. Mr. Moore said that once completed, West Shere Village will provide about 20 full and part time jobs ~for staff on duty 24 hours daily. / It will also have a significant impact on the local economy generating' some $450,000 in levies , and a substantial amount, of taxes each year. \ West Shore Developments has already started work on a similar project in the eastern Ontario town of Picton. ~~ ¢ as (AA ICE 1 D Tg 2 30% OFF Crlaufx Mickey!
