An un-eamned run in the top of the 7th inning gave Amherstview a 1-0 victory over Port Perry, and the OASA banner. Jeff Card threw a fine game on the mound for the Tiremen, fanning 14 and giving up just * five hits. Port Perry collected seven hits in the final, but were not able to push a run Seross the plate. While obviously disapiin ed that his team was not able to bring home thé gold, coach Wayne Venning said "the team, coaches and parents. feel this was one of the strongest Bantam teams in the province and their record proves this." The Port Bantams won 34 games this season, losing just six. They won the York- Durham League title and cap- tured their home tournament back in July. Beugog Citizen -- Tuesday, August TIT 15 _& "This was a fine year for an exeellent team," said coach Venning. * 'Port Perry opened the OASA tournament with a 7-2 victory over Stittsville. They did most of the dam- age in the first inning with five big runs and the outcome was never seriously in doubt. Card tossed an excellent three-hitter to get the win and Corey Bricknell rapped out three safeties with Smith, Keams and Gav Cochrane get- ting two &ach. Empringham, Card, Kay and Jamieson con- tributed one hit each in this DENNIS DERSON CHEV-OLDS LTD. Heartbreak city for Tiremen one. Venning lined a double in the 6th to drive in the only Port run, : Simcoe was the next oppo- nent and this game preved to be a real thriller as it stayed scoreless through five until Grant Kay un-loaded a triple with the sacks full and the Tiremen were off to a 3-2 vic- tory. ¢ Venning got the win as he allowed just two hits in this one. The win put Port into the championship against Amherstview and the disap- pointing 1-0 loss.
