41 This Week | Thursday, February 24,2022 durhamregion.com PITCHFORTH, Duane January 3, 1965 - February 14, 2022 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Peacefully at Northumberland Hills Hospital on Monday, February 14, 2022, at the young age of 57. Beloved husband of Lisa. Loving father of Dylan (Ashley), and Ben (Christine). Cherished son of Bill (the late Wanda). Forever missed by his brother Lee (Tracy) and loved uncle to Lindsey and Tara. Stepfather to Tyler (Rachael) and Grayson. Duane will be lovingly remembered by his extended family, friends, colleagues, and all that knew him. Duane was so much to so many people. A loving husband, proud father, older brother, and a special friend. His smile was infectious and his kindness and commitment to his family and the community was unwavering. He was always willing to lend a hand, offer support or just give a hug. Duane was a natural outdoorsman with a love for camping, fishing, hunting, spending time at the cottage where being outside, keeping active and enjoying nature filled his soul and passion. He consistently found time to enjoy sports; hockey, lacrosse, cycling, running and of course golfing. You could always find him laughing, playing his guitar, and listening to music but always having fun. Visitation will be held at the DeStefano Funeral Home, 1289 Keith Ross Drive, Oshawa Ontario (905) 440 3595 on Friday, February 25, 2022, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral service and ceremony will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to a charity of your preference would be greatly appreciated. Memories may be shared at www.destefanofuneralhomes.ca PIKE, Bessie Mae (nee Sheppard) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ We lost Bessie on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at the age of 77. Though her final months were impaired by a sharp decline in both physical and cognitive health, Bessie will remain always in our memories as the loving and devoted Mom who raised us. Sorely missed will be the woman who showed her love most through the time and care she devoted to others, whether patiently making our birthday cakes and Halloween costumes, or volunteering her time and talents to an event or charity. Mom was always at her best in a crowd, ever ready to regale us with one of her many anecdotes about her youthful adventures in Newfoundland. We hope all who knew her will cherish those happy stories and memories as the legacy of a good woman who left us far too soon. Beloved Mom of David Pike of Mount Pearl NL, Dennis Pike (Kristine Lachapelle) of Newmarket, Melissa Lynette Pike of Ottawa and Melinda Owen (Geoffrey) of Ajax. Devoted Nana to Liam, Emily, Katherine and Elizabeth. Predeceased by husband Angus, siblings Katie, Dorothy, Wilhelmina, Irene, and Gordon. Survived by brother Edwin Sheppard (Nellie), brother-in-law Garland Pike (Gladys), sisters-in-law Mabel Sheppard, Violet Quinton, and Shirley Fry. Will be missed by many nieces, nephews, a large extended family, and friends. No service will be held at this time, as Mom's remains will be returned to Newfoundland to be interred in Champney's East where she was born. In lieu of flowers, donations to Bessie's preferred charity the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. https://cancer.ca/en/ Cremation arrangements entrusted to McINTOSH- ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa ON (905- 433-5558). Online condolences may be shared at makfuneralhome.com. MILNE, Sandra Ruth ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Surrounded by love, joy and sorrow, Sandra's battle with dementia ended on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. She is reunited with the love of her life, Walter, with whom she shared their own version of "The Notebook" for almost 62 years. Beloved mother to Ruth, Ken, David and Summer. Adored Gramma to Alyssa, Arianna, Daniel, Bradley, Jessica and Adam. Sandra's heart was huge, always room for one more person who needed a hug, kind word, home made food or one of her famous chocolate chip cookies, a recipe passed on and cherished by all of us. Our deepest gratitude goes to Streamway Villa in Cobourg where mom spent her last 9 months. This home and it's staff were the angels who cared for her as part of their family and we cannot fully express how blessed we were to have them in her life. Her faith was always strong and she spent many years at Tyrone United Church with UCW, dinners, fundraisers and collecting various donations for those in need. In memory we ask you remember to do a kindness for someone in need. Any donations in her memory, we ask go to Tyrone United Church. There will be no service at this time. Arrangements made by Mill Valley Funeral and Cremation Centre in Millbrook. DENNY, C. Joy (Church) April 20, 1943 - February 16, 2022 ------------------ (Carol) Joy Denny (née Church) "Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness." - Archbishop Desmond Tutu Courageously, on Wednesday, February 16th, surrounded by her family at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa. Mother, teacher, loyal friend and confidant, Joy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 53 years Rev. Canon Trevor Denny, daughters Kara and Rachelle (their partners, Russell and Jesse), and extended family and dear friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Arms of Jesus Children's Mission, Hope and Healing International, or to the Canadian Lung Association. OBITUARIES | REMEMBERING THE LIVES OF THOSE IN OUR COMMUNITY A wonderful person, friend and aide, one who was better God never made; a wonderful worker, so loyal and true, one in a million - that person was you. Just in your judgment, always right; honest and liberal, ever upright; loved by your friends and all whom you knew. Our wonderful friend - that person was you. We are sad within our memory, lonely are our hearts today; for the one we loved so dearly has forever been called away. We think of you in silence, no eye may see us weep; but many silent tears are shed when others are asleep. We are sad within our memory, lonely are our hearts today; for the one we loved so dearly has forever been called away. There is a link death cannot sever, love and remembrance last forever. Gone is the face we loved so dear, silent is the voice we loved to hear; too far away for sight or speech, but not too far for thought to reach, sweet to remember you who once was here, and who, though absent, is just as dear.
