This love affair stared over 75 years ago when Kathleen (Kay) and Basil (Bas) met as teenagers at a dance in Brechin, Ontario in 1945. Bas lived in Atherley and soon saved enough money to buy a 1931 Model A Ford Coupe in order to visit Kay.
Bas and Kay were married on March 31, 1951, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Brechin. Kay wore a navy suit instead of a wedding dress because it was 'practical' and could be worn again. The newlyweds honeymooned in Niagara Falls.
The couple settled in Oshawa and created a loving home for four children. In 1985, they moved north to a five-acre property in Sonya. Bas retired from GM, as Manager of Quality Supplier, in 1992 and the couple continued several businesses from their home. After 34 years, they moved back to Oshawa into a condo and are currently waiting out the pandemic. Throughout the years, your love and dedication to one another and to family has been an inspiration. Wish we could be with you to celebrate this statistically 'one in a million' milestone!
