Presented By: Shelley Grainger, Sales Representative Cell. 905-447-9847 Shawn Grainger, Sales Representative Cell. 905-447-4017 SOLD Members of the community are invited to participate in a five-kilometre run/walk on June 11 to raise funds for Ontario Tech University's Kimberley Black Graduate Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to graduate students from the faculty of education "who demonstrate a commitment to women's health and wellness, safety and career growth." Dr. Janette Hughes, an Ontario Tech professor and the Canada Research Chair in Technology and Pedagogy, came up with the idea after being amazed by Black's commitment to give back to the community following her attack in 2020. Just four months after the attack, Black successfully defended her master's thesis at Ontario Tech University. "I'm honoured to be on the receiving end of such support and am grateful for the opportunity to partner with Ontario Tech U," Black says. "It's become my mission to bring positive change to the community through the #bpositive message of resilience and advocacy." Black will present the event's opening ceremony at 10 a.m. from the campus Commencement Lot at 2000 Simcoe St. N. in Oshawa. Participants crossing the finish line will be met with live music performed by Black's husband Rob Tardik, a successful recording artist. Event details and registration can be found on the Eventbrite page. The scholarship can also be supported through an online silent auction.
