Tony immigrated from England in 1951 with his parents Doreen and Benjamin Wood. Canada was a paradise for him. He enjoyed all that was to offer in Canada especially the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, canoeing and camping were some of his many pleasures. Tony chose to die with dignity surrounded by his loving family: his wife Betty Ann of 56 years, children, and grand- children; Gilbert (Karen), Maggie Benjamin, Simon, Wood; Tina (Nick Brown), Nicholas Wieringa, Christopher Wieringa, Ryleigh Brown; Lori (Jason Feddema), Andrew, Sam, Lizzy Feddema. Tony enjoyed many adventures with his family as well as travels with Betty Ann to destinations including all provinces in Canada, visits to the USA and Europe as well as winter vacations in St. Martin. Tony enjoyed golfing at Dalewood with the senior men's league. He spent many years hunting with members of the John's Lake Hunt Camp. Tony sat on many committees including Kirby Public School PTA, Clark High School PTA, Municipal of Clarington committees as well as Ganaraska Forest Board. Tony also coached Orono soccer for more than 10 years. Tony will be truly missed by his best friend of over 60 years Bob Marshall, as well as his numerous nieces, nephews and his cousins, Sue, Joanna, and Yvonne in England and Barry, Steve, Dennis, Elaine and Pat in Niagara. We will have a celebration of life Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. with tribute at 3:00 p.m. at the Orono Town Hall Orono, Ontario. SAMSON, Grace Mildred (Nee Heeger) February 10, 1928 - July 23, 2022 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa at the age of 94 years. Beloved wife of the late John Samson for 61 years. She was a loving and caring daughter of William and Augusta and was predeceased by her sister Elaine Irwin (nee Heeger). Grace will be remembered fondly by her brother Frank (Lynda), her nieces and nephews and her extended family and friends in South Africa and Canada. Grace will be remembered for her resilience, her caring nature and warm smile. May her memory be a blessing. Frank, beloved husband of Peggy (Mapplebeck). Loving father to Jani and stepfather to Paul, Chris (Theresa), Mark and Billy. Dear brother in-law to Marie (the late Bill) Clark, Wilson and Patricia Mapplebeck, Laurie Mapplebeck, and the late Jim Mapplebeck. Frank will be remembered by his many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and friends. A specialty welder by trade, Frank was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and loved horses, fishing, and hunting. A private family service will take place. GILBANK, Roland Edward "Ted" ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ On Sunday, July 3, 2022, Roland Edward (Ted) Gilbank passed away peacefully at the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre in Toronto at the age of 86. Born in Oshawa, Ontario on May 3, 1936, to Dorothy and Norman. Ted was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and a loyal friend. Known to his close friends as "Gil", he devoted most of his life in service to the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and was the longest serving Commanding Officer of 151 Chadburn Squadron. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant-colonel. Ted continually inspired Cadets and Officers in Canada and around the world for over seventy years through his commitment to sharing his passion for aviation, citizenship, and leadership with young people. Ted was an avid private pilot, world traveller, long-time engineer with PPG Canada, and happiest when sailing on a lake in his beloved Klepper kayak. Ted is predeceased by his late wife Carolyn and brother-in-law Terry, and will be lovingly remembered by his son Brian, daughter Heidi and her husband Nathan, grandchildren Mara and Alia, sister-in-law Diane, nephew Brad and his wife Emily, nephew Mark and his wife Jen and their daughter Leila. Ted will be greatly missed by his wife Nancy, stepdaughter Sarah and grandson Brandon, stepson Scott and grandchildren Camilla and Austin, and Scott's partner Lianne and her daughter Nicole. At this time, we also fondly remember Ted's late son-in-law Jereld and grandson Donny who passed away last year. A graveside service was held for family and close friends on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at the Orono Cemetery (End of Mill Lane in Orono, ON L0B 1M0) a reception in Oshawa followed to celebrate Ted's life.
