Owner - Brooklin Town Crier. Wife. Parent. De- cades long community advocate & volunteer. Sits on numerous town and region committees, recently elected Associations of Municipalities of Ontario Director representing Durham Region at the Province. A strong voice on Council for Brooklin: Sports centre (2023) Mid-block road (2023) Servicing of employment lands for economic development (coming across at Conlin Road now) Widening Winchester Road (2023) Speed bumps and stop signs rolling out now and upcoming Hospital site identified (Lakeridge & 7) Respect history. Minimize growth. We have little white belt beyond Brooklin Secondary Plan (official plan before my time). Future growth - prioritized as gentle intensification with varied forms - houses, condominiums, rentals, secondary apartments, garden suites. Parents and children want to stay near their families. Brooklin by-pass to divert traffic around downtown cannot run along the Oak Ridge Moraine (ORM). Divert up Lakeridge and across at Goodwood? Councillors cannot be afraid to protect Downtown Brooklin, Ashburn AND the ORM. Any by-pass is years in the future. I have walked about Downtown with the MTO to make changes for the province to make it safer in the meantime. Priorities: economic development; waterfront improvements, advocating provincially for our hospital AND health care. Dave Sansom Dave Sansom has been a resident of Whitby since 1979. He has always been an active member in the community serving on committee of councils as Mayors Task Force the disabled/County Town Carnival .Harbour Day and presently Vice Chair Community Connection Executive Board. I am a past member of Lions Club International and progressed to Club President and Zone Chair. Platform: The residents of Whitby have indicated what needs to be addressed by their councillor. My position is to advocate for the residents : Establish a Hospital / need for family doctors/climate change take action/affordable housing/traffic congestion and road safety to include bicycling/ lake front action plan/strategic growth/ new businesses to create local employment. Dave is committed to the residents to enhance Whitby council with his skills, leadership, honesty, professional habits with desired transparency. Whether its advocating for a new hospital, new sports complex or the removal of tolls on Highways 412. I have always put your interests at the forefront of every decision. I am now ready to represent YOU as Whitby's Regional Councillor for the Region of Durham. Important decisions made at the Region impact us all, that's why it's important that Whitby has experienced, compassionate and dedicated representation. As a parent, homeowner, businesswoman, and community volunteer, I am fully aware of all issues that matter to Whitby residents. We must manage growth and traffic. We need to build a robust economy and attract more businesses to balance our tax base. We must build a truly inclusive community and maintain the waterfront as a clean and green destination for future generations. I pledge to continue to work on your behalf guided by my platform and safeguard Whitby's reputation as the best place to live, work, and raise a family. On October 24th, vote Maleeha Shahid as Whitby Regional Councillor. I look forward to continuing to work for YOU! (905) 442-9295 info@maleehashahid.ca http://www.maleehashahid.ca Steve Yamada steve@steveyamada.ca 289-987-8383 www.steveyamada.ca Over the last four years, Council has had many successes in Brooklin, Ashburn and Myrtle Station. We approved the new north Whitby sports complex, were selected for the new hospital site, pressured the Government of Ontario to remove the 412 tolls and started the process on the new midblock arterial. Over the next term of Council, Brooklin will continue to grow. We must mitigate construction concerns surrounding the buildout in north Brooklin, implement a 7/12 bypass route that is fair to all and work to continue improving Brooklin's historic downtown. Economic development and community safety are also central to this campaign. When the Region's Official Plan is complete, Whitby will have about 25% of the Region's employment land. We need to use part of our reserve funds to service the land so businesses can build, hire and grow. This will expand the industrial tax base and bring tax relief to homeowners. In terms of community safety, we need to roll out more traffic calming measures, look at a car bating program to deter break-ins and theft and ensure that emergency services have the necessary resources.
