Cr THE OSHAWA DAILY TIMES, "TUESDAY. | GUARD FOR AMERICAN EMBASSY San Sebastian, July 26.--Authoriti have stationed pee 1 AS pHi the American summer embassy here, fearing a repetition of the attempt a few days ago to bomb the American consulate at Nice. The violence at Nice was believed to be In sympathy with Sacco and Ven- 26! . BODY DISCOVERED . UNDERNEATH CAR Continued from page 1 secand motorist was involved in the mishap. It has been stated that the steering gear had been giving trouble previous to the day of the accident, but exam- ined after the tragedv it seemed in proper shape. Though not an exper- ienced driver, young Spencer was able to handle a car and had driven several times before. The marks of the car also showed that Spencer had steered a perfectly straight course along the north side of the road before swerving sharply to the ditch. There was no evidence to show that the brakes of the car had been applied. Was Out For Drive At the time when the accident teok Place the lad who had just finished aving dinner, was out for a spin while waiting for his mother to get ready to go with him to the farm of her bro- ther, George Lynde, at Ashton, three miles distant. He had heen gone byt a few minutes when word of the acci- dent, which occurred half a mile from his home; was brought. he first persons to reach the scene of the mishap were Mr, and Mrs, Cor- rin, who were returning from visiting friends living near Brooklin, After driving a short distance along the eighth concession they came upon the car upturned in the ditch, the four wheels pointing skywards, Not realiz- ing the seriousness of what had oc- curred, Mr, Corrin slowed and stopped his car intending, as would the aver- age driver, to notice the extent of the damage which had been done. At that time it was his opinion that the owner of the ill fated car had gone for as- sistance in getting the vehicle removed from the ditch, After reaching the Ford he was amazed and shocked to notice a man's foot projecting from underneath. It did not take Mr. Cor- rin long to find that he could not hit the car and he hastened quickly to the home of John Booth. PN hs the two men lifted the car and extricated the body. Mr. Booth at once recog- nized him as the son of his neighbour. Some intimate friends of the Spencer family happened along and they noti- fied Mrs. Spencer of the accident which had taken place. Narrow Roadway The road on which the mishap oc- curred is a narrow township roadway over which there is little traffic. The ditch is deep and muddy and drops sharply from the road. The accident has cast considerable gloom over the whole community, not only at Myrtle where it occurred and where the Spencer's have resided for the 'past two years, but also at-Ki dale in Pickering iownshiy/ Shere the family formerly resided. 'During the past two years the lad had been as- sisting his father on the farm but while living at Kingsdale had attended the public school at that place. He was also a regular attendant at the Kings- dale United Church Sunday school. The funeral is being held tomorrow afternoon. Seryices will be conducted at the home by Rey. Barnes of Green- wood, and the body will be laid to rest in Groveside cemetery. The pall will be borne by six former school mates ol the deceased.
