They are a good crop this year, yielding 400 bags off three and a half acres, which is hard to beat, ALBERTA BRIDGE WORKERS KILLED Four Men Lose Lives When Girder Plunges Into River Edmonton, Alta, July 26.--Four men were killed and two others injured near Entrance, Alberta, on Saturday when a high girder which was being placed in position across one of the openings of a new bridge under con- struction on the Canadian National Railway, crashed to the bottom of the Athabasca River, The dead are: W. 8. O'Brien, Vancouver, superin- tendent of the bridge construction Bang. W. S. McDonnell, engineer, W. Dickinson Dickinson was brought to the Ed- monton hospital and is expected to re- cover, although having a fractured skull and internal injuries. McDonnell sustained minor injuries, O'Brien, Connaghan and Scott were pinned under the wreck in the river and were drowned, while Robb, who was sitting near the derrick giving signals, was instantly killed. The cause of the accident is as yet undetermined. Thomas Scott, of Calgary, is sur- vived by his wile and five children. Dyer, form- er commander of the British troops in India, died Sunday night at Long Ashton, mear Bristol, Bri- gadier-General Dyer was the sub- ject of an investigation in connec- tion with the alleged massacre of many civilians at Ameritsar, Brit- ish India, in the spring of 1919, in the course of his suppression of the Pumjab rebellion, This caused a tremendous outery in England apd a heated coptro- versy. Dyer was charged with having ordered the troops to fire on thousands of civilians, several bundred of whom were killed. Eventually an army council, hav- ing considered the report of a spe- cial investigating committee, and 2 statement by General Dyer, upheld the Commander-in-Chief in India, for removing Dyer as commander in Punjab and barrying bim from dolding further army positions in SWIMMER CONQUERS VINEYARD SOUND Vineyard Haven, Mass., July 26.--The treacheries of 10-mile Vineyard Sound have yielded at last to the long distance swimmer. For the first time in his- tory the arduous feat was accomplished on Sunday, when Wianthorp Rheno, 30- year-old carpenter, of this place, negotiated the distance in eight hours and forty minutes.
