The only lifference being that the Mayor went ip first with a fello name of Charlie Mundy, and just as [ was ; leaving the aerdrome flat some guy yelled for me to come back and take a ride. At that, Al, IT wouldn't have gone up if hadn't been for Mrs. Ayres who sorta smiled and said, "Won't you go up?" and, well, you know me, Al--I can't refuse a lady anything. Especially after hear- ing Mrs, Ayres tell how she used to fly her own boat on some Sea or other just at sunset and how she liked the gorgeous colors: you see up there, They took the Mayor up first, they took three pictures of him and you gotta hand it to the Mayor, he sure takes a mean photograft. Some bird run up about this time and want- ed to know if Dollar Bills were going to be thrown out but he didn't put anything over the Mayor who came right back with a suggestion that some body take up a collection from the crwod of Admires around, and 1 guess they were all pretty Scotch for I didn't hear anything more about Dollar Bills, Sore At Mayor Captain Ayres taxied down the field and then turned round under his own power, «Then he came back like a bat out of black cat's convention and she just sorta sailed up in the air and away towards Lake Ontario. the Mayor, and I tell you made me sorta sore seeing him up there hogging the whole show, but as I went up the next time I know what he saw, A funny thing about is that if you've got an you don't fecl scared, 1 but Al that it aeroplanes, Al, nerve ess it's be- pit with your head and neck sticking out that you just don't feel that there's nothing between you and down there but a strip of met as thick as a pie pan. The world sure looks funny air and sorta lonesome, and toy trains and not a soul to seen unless they 'get in a crowd whe: they look like something the doctors | sce under a microscope. The prettiest | things in the whole show was old Lake | Ontario stretching out for miles and | miles and a great patch of silver light out to wards the horizon, Then, through Oshawa, you could sce Oshawa Creek and its meadows, | ! about up in he I wasn't with! atall | cause you are so far down in the cotk- | highway ! Doll houses | nw | Oshawa Footballers Have J ~ Practically Won League Saturday' s 4 to 1 Vidory Qver Swansea at Alexandra Park Put Homesters With- in One Point of the League Leading Neilsons; Two Games Remain Oshawa City Football Club won its {game 4 to 1 from Swansea here at | Alexandra Park Saturday afternoon |and by virtue of their win they are {now only one point in the league He ading Neilsons of Toronto. The game {was a postponed Toronto and District | Soccer League fixture and as a result {the homesters have a splendid chance {of heading off the Neilson eleven. The win practically means that Oshawa has fo the championship of Section "A" (of the T. and D. It will be the first {year that this city has won a football {championship in some time if the cup |is brought here this year. Saturday's game was a close contest for a time, but after getting the first goal the local team seemed encourag- Jed and after that found no difficulty jin downing the visiting Swansea team. | The class of football, despite the fact that the score was one-sided, was of the very best. The Swansea boys | | threatened to tally at times and only the good work of the local goalie made the game a certainty. Swansea has a nice little team, though by losing Saturday's contest they were forced into the cellar position in the standing. Just who Oshawa will meet in the next game has not been definitely de- cided although this information should be forthcoming within the next few days. Another win over any team will put the local boys at least one point ahead of the Neilsons who have evi- dently completed their schedule. Osh- awa has still two games to play, each team having fourteen scheduled at- tractions. Neilsons have completed their fourteen games with a total of 20 points, while Oshawa has played only twelve games and have a total of 19 points. That Oshawa is by far the steadier team of the two, Neilsons and Oshawa, is evident by the fact that Oshawa has scored 33 points a- wainst Neilson's 41. But Oshawa has had only 16 tallied against them as compared to Neilson's 23. Quite a few fans witnessed the week-end fixture and although the crowd was small, the brand of ball was good. It is a pity that the sup- port is not better in view of the championship contending team. Osh- awa fans will watch with interest the progress of the team in the final games, and say, Al, somebody ought to get | busy and g\t that creek bottom land [for the city for it would make the fin- [ est, prettiest park system in the whole | country, Park Three Miles Long Just imagine, Al, a park three miles long, right through the heart of Can- ada's Motor City and all land that's not fit for much else. Yet, Al, just made to order for parkland right from the Golf Course down to Lakeview Park at old Lake Ontario. Most of it, too, wouldn't nced much except to set out trees and wild flowers to make it beautiful the whole year round. A sort of wild park, if you get what 1 mean (ch, Al, you're sorta wild yourself, sometimes), and just spots here and there all togged up and looking pretty with these fancy flowers beds, walks, fountains and goldfish ponds, that's what you get to thinking about up there in the air, You can see General Motors from above and believe me, Al, you have to go up a long ways to look down on General Motors! Which reminds me, I went up with I. W. Drew, Gen'l Motors general purchasing agent, and 1 don't know of a finer man to go skyhooting over the scenery with anywhere, You see, we were both sardined into that old cock- pit until honestly, Al, his foot went to sleep but it was me that got that needles and pins feeling you get when your foot wakes up. You can't talk up in an open air- plane but I am nothing if not original, Al, and IT thought F'd make a gesture he'd understand. So, when we passed | over General Motors new office build- ing I stuck my hand out to point down, and believe me, Al, I thought 1 had lost thé old soup bone for good and all. Well, T guess Captain Ayres must have got sorta lonesome back there by himself and decided to come down. He cased up on the old motor and that cased up on your face. For when you are going good against the wind your face feels like it had a rubber mask on, He sure is one fine pilot. He came down like a big leaf settling on a lazy October day. He hit the old terra firm without hardly a bump and there we were, Well, Al, I hope all this won't make you jealous and 1 know it's hard for a man like you who won't ever be | asked to fly in an aeroplane to hear | about it from even an old pal like me, | but that's the luck of it, Al.
