Extra expenditures incurred this year by the city will run close to (Continued on page 3) OSHAWA GLUB TO REOPEN TONIGHT Harry Sifton, Toronto, Will Address Gathering in Stand- ard Bank Chambers At tonight's reopening of the Osh- zwa Club in its chambers in the Stan- dard Bank building, Harry Sifton, of Toronto, who opposed Col. T, H, Len- nox, K.C,, in the late federal election, will be the chief speaker. As this meeting is an open one, the public at large is invited to hear Mr, Sifton whose eloquence and keen grasp of Canada's problems is well known. The meeting will begin at g pm. The Oshawa Club is looking for- ward to its fall and winter program of activity with lively interest, Prom- inent speakers will attend many of its mectings and deliver addresses on timely subjects. Other meetings will feature musical programs. A large increase in active membership is ex- pected as a result of the club's drive m this connection which will soon be under way. STINSON AND PARTY MAKE SAFE LANDING PLANE UNDAMAGED (By Associated Press) Sherborn, Mass., Oct. 19.--Edafe Stinson's big cabined monoplane rested easily today in a hay field on Richards' farm where it made a perfect landing last night when the Detroit Aeroplane Designer and Manufacturer was forced down by a "low ceiling" in a raw north east wind that for hours led to grave apprehensions that the plane and its six passengers might have met with serious mishap. Stinson, with his wife. Barron Barnehow, Phillip Ashby, J. T. Whitaker and Fred Koesley, were uninjured. The party later entrained for Boston. The ship was lo-ated here after an exten- sive search. Brown, manag- ing editor of The Daily Times, of Port Hope, saw the issuance of two injunc- tions, One injunction granted to the plain- tif company yestrains The Daily Times printed at Port Hope from us- ing any sign or newspaper heading in conjunction with the mame Oshawa. The other injunction, issued to the defendants restrains The Oshawa Daily Times from asserting a claim to the words, "The Daily Times," or "The Times." No damages were allowed either side and no order as to costs was made, Gideon Grant, K.Cy of Johnston, Dodds, Grant and McDonald, Toronto, and G. D. Conant, of Conant & Annis, Oshawa, were counsel for the plain- tiff, and Shirley Denison, K.C. and J. M. Marsh, of Ryckman, Deniéon, Fos- ter and Cody, Toronto, were counsel for defendants. The judgment of the eourt was giv- en orally as follows: The plaintiff is the publisher of a daily paper having a considerable cir- culation in Oshawa and vicinity and being well identifiied with Oshawa. Nearly two months before the defen- dants adopted the practice of which the plaintiff complains, the pla'ntiff had announced to their subscribers, advertisers, and all other interested persons that their paper henceforward would be circulated under the name The Oshawa Daily Times instead of The Oshawa Daily Reformer. Marie, Oct. 19. H. Burdon of Rock Lake sent his dog into a swamp here and the dog came running out with two timber wolves in full chase, The wolves, however, stopped and turned whem they saw Burdon. He sent the dog in again and this time the wolves were joined by a third, who all set on the dog. Burdon was unarmed but the wolves were chased away by him, SHIELDS' CLAN FORM CONVENION Two Hundred Delegates Rep- resenting 74 Churches Present (By Canad an Press) Toronto, Oct, 19--Two hundred delegates representing 74 chur her were present when the regular Bap- tist Convention of Ontario and Que- bec was formed in Jarvis street church today, in opposition to the Baptist Convention which expelled Jarvis street delegates. TIPPLE Losses Estimated "st $30,000 Find Fifty 'Sticks of Dynamite Stubenville, Ohio, Oct, 18.--Dyna- miting of the United States Cum Company's tipple near here today, with losses estimated at $30,000 will be investigated by State and Federal authorities, Sheriff W. T. Allison announced tonight, follow- ing an investigation. The Sheriff said he had found that between 45 and 650 sticks uf dynamite had been planted near tne loading platform of the tipple, wut that for some reason al haa not exploded. Had all gone off, he said, the tipple would have been destroy- ed. Only the loading platform was damaged. The 'mine was one of the most modern in this sedition and is electrically operated. Sheriff Allison announced he would question officials of the Uni- ted Mine Workers of America in connection with the blast, and said he held them partially responsible, He said investigation showed that to have planted the dynamite two or three men would have been neces- sary.
