Alan Crosland, who won such high acclaim for his digection of "Don Juan" and "When A Man Loves" has added materially to his reputation in 'Old San Francisco," The story is that of a half-caste boss of the underworld, who, covet- ing the lands and the fair grani- daughter of a Spanish grandee, hounds the old man to his death. The girl If Not Feeling Quite Up To The Mark Take Dodd's Kidney Pills Says Mr, H. McPherson "I have used Dodd's Kidney Pills at different times and would not use any other," writes Mr. H. McPherson, 1139 Winnipeg Avenue, Winnipeg. "On one oc~ casion I woke up in the mornin; and could hardly get out of because my back was so bad. I sent for a box of Dodd's Kidney | Pills and before I had taken the first box, my sore back had gone, and I have never been troubled since." Dodd's Kidney Pills have built up their reputation as a kidney remedy by the relief they give, Insist upon having DODD'S. DODD'S KIDNEY Dolores Costello In "Old San Francisco" on the ancient sword of her family, pledges vengeance and having dis- covered the fact that the boss is «a yellow man, hawks the news about the underworld, aided and abetted by a young man, who, with herself, is kidnapped and secreted in a Chinese len. The boss tries to make the girl retract her statement, by threatening to torture her lover. A crowd of Chinamen who hate their "white boss" force their way into the place and capture him while the girl is spirited away to a secret chamber by a Chin- ese girl, The boss, escaping from his captors, recaptures the girl, and drags her to a deeper cell where she is dressed in gorgeous array and offered for sale, to wealthy Chinamen. Just then, comes the terrific up- heaval which is known as "The Great Fire." Lightning flashes through rents in the walls, the boss is crushed ander a falling beam, the girl is res- sued by. her lover and out of the ruins of the old San Francisco, they flee to happiness in the new. This is a bare outline of a story which flames with passionate reality, ind with terror and beauty. The photography is marvelous and the impression one takes away from the theatre, is that of having really been an eye witness of the last days of San Francisco's vanished underworld, Dolores Costelld is exquisitely beau tiful, as she always is, and interprets the great emotional role with consum- mate art. Warner Oland as the hoss gives splendid support. Take a trip to "Old San Francisco." Long yellow fingers reached out in the darkness, clutching the white flesh of the swooning Dolores ...
