The principal speaker at the banquet last night was Major James Moore of Brooklin, who spoke on the conditions which precipitated the war and the part the British Empire played in the struggle. "During the years preceding the war, while other European na- tions were quarreling over small mat- ters, England was quietly adding to her "red line" of fortifications, until she had Gibralter, Malta, Cyprus, the Suez Canal, Esquimault, Halifax and other strategic points in her posses- sion. The growth of Canada, in his estimation, is going to be north- ward very shortly, and he said that swe must dig in and keep our eye on the north star, The banquet was largely atended by the veterans of the town, and the din- ing room of the Bowman House was suitably decorated in patriotic mode. Arrangements were made for a church parade which will be held by the Sol- diers Club to St. John's church next Sunday, all veterans of the town being requested to meet at the parish hall at 1045 a.m, in civic dress.
