It also marks a radical change in the method of printing the news- paper, Whereas the paper was formerly printed direct from type forms on a flat-hed press it will now be turned out on a fully mod- ern rotary press involving the mak- ing of a cylindrical plate of each page on much the same principle as employed by the world's largest newspapers. The first step in the process is the making of a paper matrix or 'mat', mat a stereotype plate is which: when finished on varions on the press, The new press will print and fold sixteen eight column pages at one operation, and has a speed of 25,- 000. completely folded papers per hour.
