P.A. Fixture (By Staff Reporter) Lacking the services of Stuart Can- .dler after the first period, the Bow- "manville junior O.H.A. team was nated from the S.P.A. series ¥last night at the Toronto Avena, "when they took a 10-1 defeat from the Marlboro sextet. The score at the close of the first stanza was 2 to 1, with the standing at the close of the second 5--1. The Bowmanville boys were unused o "to the large ice and had to face a "new team every few minutes as the 1* Marlboro had 12 first class men ready "9 to play, and these two factors wore 'them down, The majority of the Toronto team's goals were scored 7 in the last period, only two being % geored in the first 33 minutes of | play. w Orville "Red" Hooper deserves A +¢ lot of credit for the dozens of hard fast shots which he stopped, being Lo ---- i ---- NERVOUSNESS! !' KARN'S Drug Store Next to Post Office Ny a unbeatable during the first half of the play, He drew plaudits 'from' the assembled crowd, including Bowmanville fans, who were im: pressed by his work, "Dutch" Osborne made "the lone tally on a pass from Cliff McMullen after 18 minutes of play to balance the goal made by Shrimp McPher- son 13 minutes earlier. Charlie Con- acher then edged in one half a min- ute latter to draw away from the Rubber Town team. Lorne Williams made the first shot on goal for the Owls but it went over the head of the goalie for a miss. Both he and McMullen played stellar hockey, boring down the ice many times in an attempt to score. They did their share of the check: ing along with the rest of the team, which 'interrupted dozens of com- binations by its close covering. It is significant that none of Marlboro's tallies was the result of combination work, but rather of lone rushes. "Shrimp" McPherson, one of the much mooted stars of the Marlboro aggregation, did not show up as well last night as it was expected, , He did not appear to be as fast as when he was playing senior O.H.A, hockey for the London Panthers two years ago, but it is possible he was not extending himself. He was up on top of the nets about 30 times with a shot at Hooper, but only managed to score three and help Conacher score another. This was due in a large part to "Red's" good showing in goal, but also partly to the fact that Shrimp didn't seem to get the range of the net, A. Connacher and Mercer were twn boys who helped pile up the tallies for the Dukes, while Baxter, a form- er Bowmanville bey, helpea his team very matericlly by the stops he made of the shots the Owls sent at him. Hockey experience and familiarity with the large sheet of ice, gave the Torcnto team an edge on the Bowmanville sextet, which had nly practised three times this season, if being necessary to go to Torontg (or each practice, The Owls are exp .cl- ed however to be heard from ver} loudly this season, ar? ¢ .aough Osh awa won their first S.P.A, serio game, it is thought by those who saw both teams that they are very even STORAGE SPACE FOR RENT About 12,000 ft. of good dry storage space, conveniently locat- ed, with Canadien National siding, for rent either in whole or in part. C Camels, Inspector, Says Evidence Will Be Conclusive (By Staff Reporter) Bowmanville, Nov. 30.--Conclusive evidence is expected at the inquest tonight which was ordered by Cor- omer Dr. A. 8, Tilley into the death of Winnie May Ward, 26-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Levi Ward, whose body was found on the shore of Lake Ontario, near the Third Marsh, at 2,30 on the afternoon of Monday, November 21, by John Lun- ney, veteran of the Boer and Great Wars, It is expected that the in- quest will last for two sessions . as more than 25 witnesses are being summoned by Police Chief Richard Jarvis. Circumstances surrounding the death of the young woman were very mysterious and a post mortem was ordered following the insistence of the girl's parents who were con- vinced, along with many people in Bowmanville, that her death was the result of foul play. Dr. B. J. Hazlewood, who conduc- ted the post mortem, found that the girl came to her death by drowning, as there was water in the Jungs. Parts of the body were sent to To- ronto for analysis by Professor J. Rogers, who has been subpengd to give evidence tonight, Dr. A. E. Erb, pathologist at the Sick Child- ren's Hospital at Toronto, assisted at the re-examination of the young woman. There were no marks found on the body except a small one on the temple of the head. E. C. Gurnett, operative in the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ontario Provincial Police, and 'lorey, provincial constable sta ! at Cobourg, were sent to in- te the circumstances sur- our ng the death when called by WwW. ¥. Kerr, K.LC., Crown Attorney of the Upited Counties of Northum- berland and Durham, Mr. Gurnett stated before leaving here that the evidence which would be adduced at the inguest would be conclusive. Asked if it would be startling to the majority of the peo- ple locally, the investigator replied that be did not know what the ma- jority of the people thought about the case. In an interview 2iven upon his re- turn to Toronto, Mr. Gurnett gave the impression to a reporter for the Oshawa Daily Times that he was of the opinion that the young woman had taken her own life. It has been pointed out however that the girl was of a happy disposi- tion and was not brooding, as far as could be seen, previous to her death.
