The announcement came through Felix Pogliano of Pueblo, district sec- retary for the United Mine Workers. He said that John L. Lewis, presi- dent of the organization will assume charge of the committee work, which will have as its objective the signing of contracts with Colorado operators for production of coal. The operators Pogliano pointed out, were opposed to the LWW. which prompted the present strike, but will deal with the miners' own union, Aad Coal production soared in Northern Colorado during the day, with eight mines operating there, The Colum- bus' mire, scene of the battle be- tween state police and miners which resultede if six deaths among the strikers, has produced 2,040 tons of coal since Monday; and 225 men are 'at work there, WELL. TOSTART CAMPAIGN V1.5 Wants "Dry" Plank in Plat- forms of Both Parties Chicago, Dee. 3.--With a "dry plank in the platforms oi both major po- litical parties" as its slogan, the W.C.T.U. will inaugurate in January and February a series oi campaign conferences to be held in 11 of the strategic cities of the United States. Invitations to attend these confer- ences will include the 600,000 W.C.T, U. members, political leaders of both parties and men and women of in- fluence in civic and political organi- zations. Believeing that prohibition will suf- fer until it is endorsed and enforced by the major political parties, the W.C.T.U. will scek to build in each of the platforms a plank, not only endorsing the 18th amendment, but promising enforcement without reser- vation, stated leaders of the organi- zation Friday. It's never been discovered where people who live beyond their incomes get the money, The possibility that state troops will be sent to the séuthern fields also was being considered. : The National Guard, stationed in the north, has effectively stopped picketing and it was believed by some officials that the same procedure would enable the southern sections to resume' a nogmal production, In addition to the prospect of end- ing the strike through the United Mine Workers, northern operators have agreed to arbitrate the dispute through the state industrial commis- sion, LADY BEAVERBROOK RESTS IN LITTLE SURREY CEMETERY London, Dec. 4--In yesterday's grey December light, Gladys, the wife of Lord Beaverbrook, was bur- fed in the little Surrey churchyard of Mickleham Village, at the gates of Cherkley Court, where Lord and Lady Beaverbrook established their country home; 'Quaint old cottages that have seen hundreds of years pass nestle about the little church, which lies contentedly in the peace- fulness of the Surrey countryside.
