Fm Loser Deciding = (By Statt Ro Reporter) Bowmanville, Feb. 15.--"Slushy" the only term that may be used describing the condition of the last night when Oshawa tok the final game from Bowmanville fn the Junior series with a score of 2 to 1. We all expected it and although it tried hard to freeze at the last minute, the odds were aiun a good game. No team can ay its best material with con- as they were last nignt and Bowmanville certainly had tough fuck when the weather went sgainst them. On the other Land Oshawa seemed none the worse for the water and managed to check fn on another goal which gives them the leeway to go right on shead with the finals, 'The game itself was fast enough, all players doing their utmost to put the score up, As the final veckoning shows the goalies did gheir best and certainly checked some swift ones, which were many and harder than usual, The team- work was up to standard with a few thrillers played single-handed- Jy here and there during the game. Although the crowd was not as large as the last few games, they were certainly there for the shout- ing and cheering, Hopes that Bow- manville would win were ox- changed with the return of Candler $o the ice, Much criticism and comment on fhe new gong Bowmanville used was evidenced. ------------------ Mrs, White: Does your husband lle ake at night? 14 Brown: Yes, indeed, and pometimes he even tells 'em in his sleep, 3 ai I yg fh if oy 7 Z Se 77 Whore Quality Counts' ("Where Quality Gounts' ame 2 to 1 ro AnbRESs CANADIAN crm (By Staff Reporter) ' Bovitaiiie og Th gr hg \ W, Cosgrave o ty College, ToTronto, is to be the speaker at the Men's Canadian Club, Bowman- ville, to be held at the Balmoral Hotel on Friday evening. W, Jackson, reeve of the town of Whithy. F. H. Annes was heard by the council, and it was pointed out that, just south-ast of the town limits, there is an area of perhaps 1,600 acres, which would provide the best natural aviation fleld to he found in Central Ontario. This fleld is near Oshawa, where Gen- eral Motors may some day manu- facture aeroplanes, and also is the closest practical fleld to Toronto, which is being considered a port of call for the trans-Atlantic and trans-continental air traffic. The council of Whitby has passed a re- solution impressing upon the Do- minion Government the favorable points of this site, and the County Council was asked to do likewise. Then, it is understood, the matter will be brought hefore the cities of Oshawa and Toronto with re- quests for similar action, Action was taken whereby the warden of this county will be eloth- ed in the full regalia of his office. The motion passed by the council empowers the warden and R. J. Un- derwood, Whithy, chairman of the County Property committee to pur- chase the full regalia for the of- fice, This will include the tradi- tional cap, and robes of office, as well as other insignia, making up the complete regalia, G. M. Forsy- the, Pickering, this year's warden, will thus be the first Ontario Coun- ty warden to have this honor, and will appear in his new robes at the June session. In this action, Onta- rio County is following the lead of several other counties in this pro- vince, | A deputation was heard from the Oshawa Hospital, requesting the same grant they received last year, or an increase in the coun- cil saw fit to grant it. The dele- gation comprised G. D. Conant, chairman of the Hospital board, J, D. Storie, president, H. P, Schell, and Miss McWilliams, superintend- ent of the Hospital. Mr, Conant and Mr, Schell were spokesmen of the delegation, pointing out the work of the fipstitution, which knows no hounds of city or county in its treatment of the sick. The chief difficulty Is finances, for it seems impossible to make a hospi- tal a paying business. It was also shown that, whereas indigent pa- tients are paid for at the rate of $1.60 per day by the county and 50 cents by the province, the 'mini- mum cost is $3.00 2 day, and the municipality is not assessed for such extra expenses as operations. Oshawa hospital is 8 standard in- stitution recognized by the Ameri- can College of Physicians and Sur- geons, and its graduates gre receiv- ed as registered nurses anywhere. Over 16,750 patients were treated last year, 295 of them being def- initely county patients. On mo- tion of Jackson, Whitby, and Dear- born, East Whitby, the matter was referred to the finance commit- tee. The council listened with inter- est to an address by Mr. Lennox of the Provincial Seed Branch, who was Introduced by W. M. Crosk- ery, agricultural representative for the county. Mr. Lennox spoke regarding the Provincial Seed Campaign soon to be launched, and asked the co-operation of members of the council in their own con- for 8 short period to enable the Agriculture Advisory Board of the She: It's a sign that you've got ROSS BRIDGE IN G00D CONDITION County - Council Committee Inspects Work--1Is Almost Complete (By Stat ) Whitby, February 16.--The Ross Bridge, north of Oshawa, was the centre of interest for the Roads and Bridges committee of the County Council today. During the noon recess the committee mo- tored over to the bridge and view- ed it to satisfy themselves as to its condition, It has been rumored that the bridge has suffered this winter from contraction and expansion, and that the engineers would ex- perience a certain amount of Aiffl-! culty when work is resumed in the' spring.
