EUCHRE PROVED A FINE SUCCESS Held in Albert Street School By the Home and School Club The euchre held at the Albert street school last evening under the auspices of the Home and School Club was most successful, the proceeds far the evening amounting to $21, which go to swell the general funds of the club. The first prize for the lad- fes, a chine sandwich plate, was awerded to Mrs, H. W., Glover, the second prize, a pair of pollow cas. es, was won by Mrs. Hobbs and Mrs. Martin, received a black bon- bon dish as the consolation prize, Mr. Maynes won the first prize for the gentlemen, three pairs of socks, while the second prize, two pairs of socks, went to Mr, South- well, The consolation prize for the gentlemen, a pair of garters, was given to Mr, Zealand. Miss White won the special prize, a box of chocolates, When the games had all been played and the prizes awarded, very dainty refreshments were served, The ladies of the club are all much pleased with the success of the evening and wish to thank all those who donated the prizes and so helped to make the evening one to be remembered. S.0.E.WHIST DRIVE LARGELY ATTENDED The S. O. E. whist drive held last evening in the S.0.E. hall was a suc- cess in every way. There were thir- teen tables and the first prize for the ladies was won by Mrs. F, Brown, Miss Ada Collins won the second prize and the third prize went to Mrs. 0. Sharrad.- -Mr. H. Abbot won the first prige for the gentlemen, Mr. E. E. Downey was the second prize win- ner and the third prize was given to Mr. F. Brown. The weekly was awarded to Mr. W. J. Barrett. The prizes were the vouchers on the merchants of the town enabling the winaers to purchase whatever they wish. ENTERTAIN FRIENDS EUCHRE AND DANCE Nr. and Mrs. G. HEAR FINE TALK Mrs. C. O. Lucas, Toronto, Tells of Work in Inspiring Address On Thursday afternoon the Women's Auxillary of St. George's Church held a special meeting, when the speaker was Mrs. C. O. Lucas, Dorcas Secretary of the Toronto Diocesan Board of the W. A. The meeting opened with a hymn, followe@® by the devotion- al exercises conducted by the Rev, J. Paterson, Rector of the newly formed parish of Christ Church. The president, Miss Oakley, then introduced the speaker, Mrs. Lu- cas' address Was most interesting and instructive, She dealt with the many phases of the W. A, work, which she likened to the wheels of a clock, all departments are separate, yet all departments of one great whole, Mrs, Lucas spoke of the importance of giving Christian education to the Indians in the far North, for if they are to be good citizens they must be Christians, A new fleld is broad- ening out in the establishing of churches and Sunday schools for the white settlers in the sparsely settled parts of the North West, and many urgent calls are sent out for help to bull§ churches and equip them, Pletures of the In- dian boarding schools were pass- ed around and showed clearly the work being done among these peo- ple. A hearty vote of thanks was tendered to Mrs, Lucas for her very excellent address. There were about forty-five present. Af- ter the meeting was closed by prayer from Canon dePencler a dainty tea was served.
