PAGE TWELVE OLD MANUSCRIPT SOLD FOR $28,130 John Lidgate's Translations of 15th Century Are Purchased i -- London, April 25.--What has been deseribed as one "of the finest flluminated manuscripts in verna- cular English to be offered at auc- tion for many years," was includ~ ed in the first day of a two-day sale at Sotheby's. The. offering that stood out yas a fifteenth century manuscript of John Lidgate's translations of "The Dreme of the Pilgrymage of the Soule," (translated from the prose version by Jehan de Gallopes of Guillaume de Deguilleville's *"Po- lerinage de L'Ame'), The mani- seript with its 26 magnificent pages, went to Gabriel Wells, of New York, for $28,130. This manuscript, as are most of the works at this sale, is from the col- lection formed by Henry Percy, cud ninth Barl of Northumberland, eighth in succession to the British Throne and whose scientific studies earned for him the nickname '""Wiz- ard Earl."
