The Council of the Corporation of the City of Oshawa enacts as follows: (1)--No owner, lessee, tenant, agent, manager or occupant of any premises in, or of a stegm boiler in connection with which a fire is burning, and no person who oper- ates, uses or causes or permits to be used any furnace, or fire, with. in the limits of the City of Oshawa, shall permit the emission to the atmosphere from such fire of opa- que or dense smoke for a period of more. than six minutes in any one hour, or at any other point than the opening to the atmosphere of the flue, stack or chimney. Nothing herein contained shall ap- ply to a furnace or fire used in connection with the reduction, re- fining or smelting of ores or min- erals or the manufacture of ce- ment, or to dwelling houses, ex- cept apartment houses. July 5) ONTARIO CROPS ARE MENAGED BY DEER Hamilton, June 27.--A few years ago almost extinct in West¥ ern Ontario, wild deer are becom- ing so numerous as to menace farmers' crops. From half a dozen counties in the last few weeks deer have been reported. What has caused the revival is a problem. Monday, Mrs. C. Groves, West Flamboro farmer, complained to Chief Clark that the deer were eat- 'ing her. wheat and damaging other crops in the vicinity. Fences are of no use. The agile creatures leap over barriers. of all kigds with ease. . Other farmers in the district have had the same troublé. The season js closed and heavy fines are provided for anyone who shoots the marauders. The farm- os. are powerless to protect their against the invasion and of- cB are puzzled.
