CROPS DAWAGED BY HEAVY HAIL Losses from 10 to 100 Per Cent. in Unity District, Saskatchewan Saskatoon, July 25.--Heavy grain crops almost ready for the harvest were completely wiped out in some parts of Central Saskat- chewan Tuesday evening hy hail, which accompanied the worst elec- trical storm which has swept this district in a decade, Losses rang- ing from 10 to 100 per cent. were reported this morning, and in the vicinity of Unity the wheat was in places flattened to. the ground by hailstones the size of hens' eggs, North Battleford also reported heavy loss from hail, and many broken windows in the city. In Saskatoon tram services and traf- fic were temporarily paralyzed by a deluge of rain which brought the annual exhibition to a full stop in the middle of its evening program. Lightning struck a residence and the Royal Canadian Mounted Po- lice barracks, damaging both buildings, The city was in dark- ness for a few moments on three occasions. A brief report at Plenty, Sask. at 10.30 o'clock this morning stated that a storm of eyclonic proportions had swept that village and carried away the spire of a church and the roof of the skating rink, The storm appeared to have been most intense from Saskatoon north- west, the Goose Lake Valley, south- west, reporting an electrical storm, but no hall damage. Points north of Saskatoon reported no rain or hail, . YOUTH IS CRUSHED BY FARM TRACTOR St. Thomas, July 25.--Crushed hy a runaway farm tractor against the rear wall of the garage on his fa- ther's farm, Yarmouth Centre, Don- ald Soper, aged 20, was brought to the Memorial Hospital late this morning in a very serious condition, He suffered several broken ribs and internal injurics. The young man went to the garage to take out the heavy tractor, and was unaware that it had been left in gear. The engine started with the turn of the crank and the machine moved for- ward, pinning him against the wall, Fortunately the wall gave way and the tractor went on, crashing through two stout fences finally be- ing brought to a stop in the centre of a field. Young Soper was thrown to one side as the. tractor broke through the wall. His mother, Mrs. Thomas . Soper, found him lying. in the debris, LEAMINGTON GIRL DROWNS SWIMMING WITH FRIEND Leamington, July 25.--Betty' Wil- liamson, 14-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E.
