($8¢c) THE DIFFERENCE (London Sunday Pictorial) In the old days a girl looked for somebody to lean on; mow she looks for something to get lean on. gas stove, PLANES TO REMAIN IN AIR THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS London, Sept. 22.--The assembly stage is now being reached in a most interesting attempt to evolve British Aircraft capable of rémain- ing in the air for three days and three nights continuously. This machine, a Fairey-Napler monoplane, which has beem built by the Fairey Aviation Company, Hayes, to the order of the Air Min istry, is being fitted with the latest Napier Lion engine, and represents a departure from general British practise in that a monoplane form instead of a biplane has beew ¢hos= en. The present endurance record, held by Germany, was set up in July when Herren Tiqgticz and Zim- merman in a Junkers menoplane remained in the air for 65 1-2 hours, thus beating the Italian re- cord of 58 hours 42 minutes made in June, and the fact that nation after nation strives to raise the record has led to British experi- ment's being hailed as a challenge to the foreign endurance records. This 1s correct in one sense, but it is understood that the main pur- pose of the Air Ministry is to fur- ther research upon long endurance, wheh may have a great practical value In view of the scattered strat= egic bases of the Empire.
